It’s with a heavy heat that we say goodbye to Coach Claire who has decided to leave after 3 years of her children training and 6 years of her personal development at Blue Wave . Claire has made a great contribution to the team however the rest of the team remains including all Coaches.

Sometimes we must all move on.

In the meantime Claire’s duty’s as administrator will be moved to Kerry Winn - Ashley’s wife and

Safeguarding will be taken over by the very experienced Chris Stott.

Anthea Otterson will be taking over as children’s Coach replacing Claire .
All Classes will continue as normal .
We appreciate the love and support we have from all our members and parents.

🌊🌊 Without you 🌊🌊

There’s a concept in sociology called “the third place.” Our first is always our home. Then, of course, our work. Or, in our children’s cases, school.

Then, there’s your third place.

Your third place is somewhere you choose to spend time, connect with people, belong and simply be.

That’s what Blue Wave is all about. It’s you.

Yes, we teach BJJ, Karate, Kickboxing, NoGi, Judo and Eskrima.

Yes, all of that comes with getting fitter, stronger and more confident. Then there’s the progress, belts, gradings, competitions and personal goals.

But the thing that makes this place special is the people in it.

It’s the conversations before class. Your training partners, coaches and the parents you chat to. It’s the person who notices when you’ve had a rubbish week or you’re not quite yourself.

It’s our youth team who grow up together on the mats. It’s our parents who spend their evenings here.

Blue Wave, for them, is somewhere that isn’t home and isn’t work.

Somewhere you can come as you are.

And honestly?

Without you, it’s just a building with mats in it.

You are what makes Blue Wave, and we appreciate every single one of you. 🌊

⏰ I don’t have time ⏰

Time? It’s probably one of the biggest things that gets in the way of your training.

And honestly? We get it. IT IS HARD

Life is busy. Work, kids, school runs, dinner, homework, housework, commitments… there’s always always ALWAYS something else that needs doing. And those commitments never go away.

There’s one thing we’ve noticed at Blue Wave and it is that the people who train consistently for years aren’t necessarily the people who have the most free time.

They’re the people who have found a way to carve out that time.

They’ve created a window in their week which is for them. For their training. A time for where training happens. It’s one of the hardest things to do BUT if you wait for life to get less busy?

We think that time never comes.

Training isn’t just about getting fitter, learning martial arts or getting better on the mats.

It’s time for you
For your personal challenge
Time to switch your brain off
For your personal development
And your physical health

We think the secret to training success isn’t motivation. It’s consistency and a healthy dose of discipline. For yourself. Because you said you would. Because you have goals and because you know it’s important.

We don’t think we need more time.

We need to carve time for us during our busy life and go to training. You deserve that time for you.

🔦 Coaches Spotlight— Episode 3 🔦

Alonso Sanchez @

If you’ve trained at Blue Wave, you’ll know Alonso.

A 2nd Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Alonso was promoted to black belt in March 2020 by Professor Matt Wilson.

His competition experience includes BJJ through Purple Belt, as well as an impressive 2017 where he won two weight divisions in MMA.

But it’s his coaching that really makes Alonso such an incredible asset to Blue Wave and your own BJJ journey.

Calm, precise and incredibly technical, Alonso has a brilliant ability to spot the small details that can make a big difference. He’ll regularly you specific, individual feedback to help you understand your game and, more importantly, how to improve to get to your next level.

🔦 Coach Spotlight – Part 2 🔦

Meet Coach Windy

Windy’s martial arts journey began when he was just 10 years old. What started as a childhood interest in Judo has became a lifelong passion.

Today, Windy is Head Coach and Owner of Blue Wave Martial Arts, running the club alongside his team. He coaches across our adult and youth programmes and continues to train and develop his own martial arts while helping others develop theirs.

For Windy, martial arts has always been about much more than the art itself. It’s about confidence, discipline, resilience, respect and giving people the opportunity to discover what they are capable of.

A note from Windy:

“Martial arts has been part of my life since I was 10 and I’ve seen first-hand just how much it can give you.

One of the biggest things I want to achieve through Blue Wave is to make martial arts available to everyone.

It doesn’t matter where you come from, how old you are, what your experience is, or whether you’re stepping onto the mats for the very first time. There is a place for everyone to learn, train, grow and be part of a community.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built at Blue Wave and, alongside Claire and our coaching team, I want to keep building a club where everyone feels welcome and has the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.”

Whether your child is taking their first steps onto the mat or you’re looking for a new challenge for them? Judo is a fantastic way to build confidence, strength, coordination and resilience.

For our younger members, it’s about learning through movement, developing discipline and having fun while building skills that stay with them well beyond their time on our mats.

For adults, it’s a fantastic skill to learn. It’s full-body workout, a great way to learn practical throwing and grappling skills and an opportunity to challenge yourself in a supportive environment.

When The Neal’s joined Blue Wave, they were looking for help. Theodore was at that time undiagnosed but showing signs of struggling with his neurodivergent brain, while Nora was just three years old non verbal and reluctant.

What they needed wasn’t simply a martial arts class or after school club.

They needed coaches who would see them as individuals, understand what made them tick, recognise their challenges and strengths, and adapt their coaching to bring out the very best in them.
