Welcome to West Suffolk Swimming Club

About Us: West Suffolk Swimming Club formed in 1998 from the merger of two local swimming clubs and is now becoming one of the largest competitive swimming clubs in East Anglia. West Suffolk Swimming Club is a club that puts its swimmers first and with some 250 swimming members aims to provide an inclusive experience catering for thosewho are just starting out on their competitive swimming careers up to those competing at national / international level. Coaching: We have a dedicated and highly qualified team of coaches who will help you to integrate in to the appropriate training sessions and to improve your stroke and stamina in preparation for competition. Most of our swimmers come from the Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds areas of Suffolk although some do travel further. West Suffolk Swimming Club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association, the ASA East Region and to Suffolk ASA. Return to Training: A reminder of the sessions for this week through to Sunday 30th August.

Please note, there is no swimming at Culford this afternoon (Tues 24th Aug) between 4:00-5:45pm due to debris in the pool from where the scaffolding has been taken down. Training at Culford and Bury sites will commence from tomorrow (Wed 26th Aug) evening.

There will be no training on Bank Holiday Monday.

Congratulations to Angharad Evans on becoming European Champion! Winning in a new best time, British record and European Championship record, Harri backed up her Commonwealth title from two weeks ago in Glasgow. If you don’t have the Eurovision Sport app, or missed the action in Paris, then check out the race here. You can cheer on Angharad, where she is back in action later this morning (Thursday) in the 200m Brs, with the morning heats starting from 9.30am (Paris time)

URGENT: Wednesday 15th July AM - CANCELLED at CULFORD

Apologies for the late notice. We have just been informed that the Culford Sports & Tennis Centre have had some issues tonight with their water / chemical balance and have closed the pool for the final part of their opening hours. With the swimming club policy to not be the first to re-open the pool in the morning, the session tomorrow morning for Competitive and Development squad will be cancelled.

Any Development squad swimmers are welcome to swim on Friday (17th) morning at Culford from 5:45 - 7:00am as an alternative option.

REMINDER: Training Changes - Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st June

Due to the WSSC Summer Solstice meet taking place this weekend at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre, there will be no training across the weekend for any squad at any site:

Saturday 20th June AM: There will be no training at Culford or Haverhill for any squad on this morning.

Sunday 21st June AM: There will be no training at Bury or Haverhill for any squad on this morning.

Sunday 21st June PM: There will be no training at Haverhill for any squad on this afternoon.

URGENT: Training Cancellation at Haverhill - Sunday 10th May PM

Apologies for the short notice. We have just been informed that, due to staff shortages and no lifeguards in the building, the 4:00 - 6:00pm session at Haverhill LC this afternoon will have to be cancelled. Therefore, there will be no training for Competitive, Development or Masters squad swimmers.

Sorry for the inconvenience. This is obviously out of our control.

URGENT: Training Cancellation at Culford - Thursday 16th April PM & Friday 17th April AM

Apologies for the short notice. We have just been informed that the pool at Culford Sports & Tennis Centre is currently out of action whilst they are doing some works on it. These works include some re-titling, re-grouting, installing a new pool cover and cleaning out the balance tanks. During these works, unfortunately the chemical levels have increased and so they have had to close the pool. These works will continue overnight and so the pool will be closed in the morning as well. For that reason, there will be no training this evening (Thursday 16th April) for any squad at Culford and also tomorrow morning (Friday 17th April).

Training should go ahead as normal from Saturday 18th April AM at Culford, but any further cancellations will be communicated.

Training Changes: April 2026

Please be aware of the following changes to training during April:

Friday 3rd April: There will be no training for any squad at any site over the Easter weekend.

Saturday 4th April: There will be no training for any squad at any site over the Easter weekend.

Sunday 5th April: There will be no training for any squad at any site over the Easter weekend.

Monday 6th April: There will be no training for any squad at any site over the Easter weekend.

Sunday 19th April: Time Trials for Nemo, Skills 1 and Skills 2 squads have been pencilled in for this date at both Haverhill & Newmarket sites. If these go ahead, warm up will start at 7:45am at Haverhill and 8:00am at Newmarket for all three squads. Confirmation will be sent out by Monday 13th April.

Sunday 26th April: Due to a Masters meet taking place at Newmarket Leisure Centre, there will be no training for Nemo, Skills 1 or Skills 2 squads at this site on this morning.

Training Cancellation: Friday 13th March AM at Culford

As some of you may be aware, Culford have experienced a number of power cuts this evening due to the weather. Every time there is a power cut, the pool pumps go off, and need to be manually started again. The power cuts have continued this evening and so to be on the safe side, with the likelihood being high that it will happen overnight, we will cancel tomorrow morning (Friday 13th) at Culford, to avoid an early wake up for a potential wasted journey in.

As an alternative option, the Competitive squad can train tomorrow evening alongside Development squad at Bury Leisure Centre from 5:00 - 6:15pm if they wish to.
