Never be afraid to ask questions.
Asking questions shouldn't make you feel embarrassed, nervous, or like you're somehow less knowledgeable. In fact, it should be encouraged.
As a personal trainer and sports massage therapist, I want my clients to ask me questions. I want them to understand why I'm doing what I'm doing and why I'm asking them to perform certain exercises or techniques. The more you understand, the more confident you'll become, and the better your results will be.
If you ask your coach or therapist a question and they avoid answering it, that should raise a few concerns. Maybe they don't fully understand the reason themselves. Maybe they're gatekeeping information so they can keep charging for it. Or maybe they see your question as a challenge to their authority.
The best coaches, trainers, and therapists won't know absolutely everything—and that's okay. But they should be able to explain the reasoning behind what they're asking you to do, or be honest enough to say they'll find out if they don't know.
You have every right to understand your own training and treatment. If someone isn't willing to explain it, or can't, it might be time to find someone who will.
