Sunday RESULTS

The 1XI were in cup action against Marehay, looking to progress into the quarter final round. Choosing to bat first against an experienced home side and runs were hard to find and wickets fell. Toby Clark (29), Aleem Ahsan (14) and James Lee (14) all got starts and after 22 overs the score was on 71-5. Enter Monty Cowgill. The fireworks began as the powerful striker decided the best form of defence was attack, hitting 9 fours and 7 sixes in his incredible knock of 94 off just 46 balls. His 79 run partnership with Sam Benstead (14) was crucial as was Sam's 22 run partnership with Faiz Ahsan (21). Sam picked up a wicket with his first ball as all bowlers managed to find solitary success, but the leg spin of Lawrence Wilson turned the game. 3-41 at a crucial stage of the game. With 4 overs left and 26 needed, skipper Dan Featherstone (1-14) and Monty (2-10) were left the challenge and both bowled perfectly, picking up crucial wickets and eventually the win, setting up a quarter final match against South Wingfield.

The Sunday XI lost in their Lichfield League fixture against Cannock. Will Yates top scored with 32 and Ollie West hit 20 but 7 scores of 2 and below meant that only 105 was posted, which the home side surpassed without too much drama in the 20th over.

GW9 RESULTS

3 wins and 1 loss

The 1XI remain in the top 3 after their 42 run win against Spondon. Batting first, George Tomlinson hit his first 50 of the season, scoring 65. James Benstead (44) and Dan Welch (42) also gave good contributions to setting a total of 232-4. Spin led the way again as 8 of the 10 wickets were picked up, James Benstead (4-25) took his tally to 26 for the season. Scott Chilman (2-19) and George Evans (2-39) took the other spin wickets, whilst Corey Perera (2-33) was the sole seamer to find success.

The 2XI picked up a much needed win against Winshill. After being put into bat and finding themselves 35-3, Aleem Ahsan (17) and captain Archie Chambers began to rebuild. Archie carried his bat to the end of the innings, finishing his skippers knock of 70 as Monty Cowgill's late contribution of 28 was a turning point. Faiz Ahsan (3-19) returned to form, reducing the visions to a similar total of 31-3. Luke Nelson (0-20) bowled tightly without reward as Will Yates replaced and his golden arm continued it's rich form, taking 4-25 as the visitors looked for the boundaries. Sam Benstead returned and took 2-31.

The 3XI scored a massive 128 run victory against Rosehill thanks to 2 standout performances. Taylor Millington hit 92 off 107 balls, sharing a 96 run partnership with Luke Kinsella (26). Setting 179, Dan Law took his career best figures and maiden 5 wicket haul, taking 6-11 off 9 overs and nullified the visitors. Toby Smith took 3-9 to wrap up the innings and a huge 27 points.

The 4XI suffered defeat to Yoxall. Bowling first, Harry Slymn took 3-10 and Gurinder Singh took 2-44 as the hosts finished on 199. Will Goulding continued his scoring streak, hitting 29 but struggled to find support, as George West (19) was the sole batter to find double figures, eventually being bowled out for 77.
