Holidays arenโ€™t just for relaxing๐Ÿ˜‚

Just got back from holiday and whilst it was lovely to have some time off work enjoying myself with friends, making memories it was also great to stay active in a way Iโ€™m not used too๐Ÿ˜…

Great fun kayaking on holiday last week and turns out it also gives you a solid arm and shoulder workout!

Morninggg everyone! I hope youโ€™re all enjoying this glorious heatwave we are currently in the midst ofโ˜€๏ธ As the heat rises, here are a couple of tips to bare in mind when your training:

1. If you can work out early in the morning or late evening do - These are cooler times in the day.

2. Stay hydrated - I know itโ€™s an obvious one but itโ€™s key to stay hydrated before, during and after.

3. Appropriate clothing - Choosing light clothing in weight and colour will help. Sweating is the bodies primary cooling mechanism.

4. Donโ€™t be afraid to regress your workouts - Forget your ego and remember itโ€™s okay to scale your workouts down if you need.

5. Listen to your body! - Training in the heat can cause heat related illnesses. Symptoms include fatigue, light headedness, nausea & confusion. If you experience any of these, stop exercise immediately!

6. Itโ€™s okay to miss a day - If youโ€™re not feeling it one day, relax and come back the next. One day is not going to hinder your progress!

Remember most gyms are also air conditioned so as hard as it is to walk to the gym itโ€™s probably cooler than being outside! Hope that helps when it comes to training in the heat, if you have any other questions then please donโ€™t hesitate to drop me a message๐Ÿ’Œ

Had a great swimming session this morning๐ŸŠ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Swimming has never been my favourite sport however, competing in triathlons at uni (which I loved) it was all part of the training. I was swimming 3 times a week but then lockdown hit and pools shut.

Truth is, I wasnโ€™t too fussed at all and all I could think was โ€œYay! I can cycle instead!โ€ But after a good 12 months out of the pool, today was the day to dust off the costume, hat and goggles and get back into it.

My thoughts this morning:

From the moment I pushed off the wall, my technique came flossing back and I really enjoyed swimming up and down the black lines (&overtaking everyone in the lane๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ˜›)

Letโ€™s be honest, the obvious way to track progress is โ€˜the scalesโ€™ โš–๏ธ But that number can fluctuate and there are better ways to track progress.

For example, using progress pictures can help show change in a positive way rather than just focusing on a number on the scale which can be disheartening at times.
