I am raising money for Birmingham Children's Hospital, a very worthy cause and one very close to my heart β€οΈ.
I have been very lucky to have been offered a place for to run Chicago Marathon in October this year.
However.... It may not be a smooth ride! So after being diagnosed with Crohn's disease and not responding to medication, I had a huge surgery which removed my large bowel and a couple of other bits to leave me with a permanent stoma. Thankfully many symptoms were resolved with surgery but Chronic fatigue was still a major issue, and still have to try and manage life to deal with this. I am also prone to my small bowel trapping in my muscle wall causing potentially life threatening blockages which lead to emergency visits to A&E, with emergency surgery looming over me each time.
That said, despite being told by doctor's id never run again due to my fatigue, with some help I have found a way to get started! I completed my first 10k in September 2024 and my first half marathon in June 2025, however a full marathon will be a whole different bag! I'm not sure how my body will deal with the extra load, and I have no idea how I will manage to fuel enough for the longer distance due to malabsorption.
So if you have a few pennies to spare and would like to see me suffer for this wonderful cause please scan the qr code or see my just giving link in my bio at the top of the page. Or if you could share it to others that would also be grately appreciated!
