Jugo Kumite or 15 Kumite was developed by Motokatsu Inoue of the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Hozon Shinko Kai. Demonstrated in this clip by Daniel Pyatt & Matt Wood, this shows the sequence at 2 speeds with a variation or Henka also shown. It is one of the most essential sequences to learn and study in the art of Ryukyu Kobujutsu and teaches much about the Heiho (strategy) of not only Bo Kumite but Bujutsu Kumite in general. Like a rubix cube that changes in real time, learning 15 kumite is one thing but mastering it is another.

Midlands Kobujutsu is the Northern most branch of the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Asssociation of Great Britain (RKAGB). If your interested in learning Kobujutsu contact the association via the website: www.rkagb.com or to learn specifically at the Midlands Branch contact via www.danielpyatt.com.

Classes are every Tuesday evening from 8pm until 10pm at Burntwood Leisure Centre in the Midlands.

🔥SEIPAI - Karate Jutsu Open Seminar🔥

This seminar will explore the Naha Kata SEIPAI. Not only will we cover the form but examine the systematic approach of the bunkai as a complete sub-system.

Through this we will dive into the striking principles, joint locks and manipulation, throws and strangles contained within the kata, but much more importantly we will see how they are sequenced, developed and connect to form the tapestry of SEIPAI.

This course is open to all adult students, regardless of style or system but spaces are limited!

Sai is often one of the core introductory weapons in most Kobujutsu/Kobudo systems. Often introduced after the Bo it presents multiple new challenges for students. It is often the first “dual weapon” requiring independent co-ordination of each weapon whilst in transit. The primary methods of power generation are perhaps more subtle than that of the Bo; where leverage and the unison of your hands make achieving a modest level of power quite straight forward. In contrast, beginners with the Sai often lack any power transmission and then in pursuit of this often overpower the arms and shoulders which, with only a short amount of intense training, quickly leads to fatigue.

The metallic nature of the weapon often makes it feel less natural and smooth than that of wood. I’ve known more than one student whom, despite initial excitement for the study of Sai, have ended up being grateful for Tonfa. Sai is a long-term weapon. Unlike Tonfa and Nunchaku which love to move for you, freely and without much effort, Sai must be moved. Done wrong, even light Sai become torturous in prolonged training.

🔥 Ryukyu Kobujutsu October Seminar 🔥 Open to all regardless of experience. This is going to be great as we are focusing on two of my absolute favourite Kata, Chatanyara No Sai on the Saturday, if you ask me never was there a more beautiful Sai Kata (except maybe Kojo). Followed up on the Sunday with the most elusive of the Sakugawa Kata, Sakugawa no Kon Chu.

12:00 until 4 both days. Contact me if you wish to reserve places as this seminar will fill up!
