I’m doing something a little different today.
For nearly 2 years, I’ve been teaching Self Care Sundays. And I put a LOT into them.
I choose a theme. I read and research. I find poems. I think about every posture and how it connects to what we’re exploring.
And if I’m honest, somewhere along the way, something that was supposed to be about self care became quite stressful for me.
My perfectionism takes over and so does the familiar voice telling me I’m a fake. Who am I to teach this stuff when I have to go away and learn it first?
I feel that the last few months have changed me. My son has been in rehab for three months and is now home. And while he hasn’t been well, I’ve had to recognise that I haven’t been well either. I’m in recovery too.
And today, I don’t have a beautifully planned theme. I haven’t spent hours researching. I haven’t found the perfect poem. I haven’t even marketed the class.
But I can show up. As I am - tired, raw, very grateful and not pretending that I have it all figured out.
Maybe this is what self care really looks like for me . Maybe it’s accepting that how I am right now is good enough. I literally don’t have the strength anymore to keep trying to be someone I’m not.
So I’m turning up for Self Care Sunday today, imperfect and unprepared, and we’ll see together what unfolds.
If you’d like to join me, I’ll be at Breathe Yoga in Dunfermline from 4–5.30pm today. There’s no theme 🤭 Just 90 minutes to breathe, move, rest and be exactly where we are.
If that sounds like something you need too, let me know.
