As you know, Charlie is leaving us…. for now.

He’s off to Royal Dornoch, one of the great links courses anywhere in the world, tucked up in the Highlands. He’ll be combining it with his studies at the University of Stirling, all working towards becoming a PGA Professional. I couldn’t be prouder of him for it.

I took Charlie on three years ago and watched him become a critical part of not just my business, but the Burnley Golf Club family. From working in the pro shop to working behind the bar, Charlie is respected by members and visitors.

So go and enjoy it, Charlie. You’ve earned it. And the good news for everyone here is that he won’t be gone for long, he’ll be back with us at Christmas, Easter and over the summer.

📮 POSTCARDS FROM CARNOUSTIE — 2011

Day one of the AIG Women's Open, and the world's best have landed on the Lancashire coast for the 50th staging of the Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Which makes this the perfect week to send a postcard back to 2011.
Because fifteen years ago, a Lancashire girl who'd come up through the junior ranks at Pleasington and Accrington teed it up in the Ladies British Open at Carnoustie — one of the toughest tests in golf, on the biggest stage in the women's game.
That was our very own Nikki Foster.

A few successful seasons followed, then a ten-year step away from competitive golf to raise a family. Fast forward to 2026, and Nikki is a PGA Professional heading up the pro shop and coaching centre at Whalley Golf Club, and part of the Elite Golf coaching team — passing on everything that Carnoustie week taught her.

From England international, to the Open at Carnoustie, to the lesson tee at Whalley. Not a bad journey.
