Burnley Belvedere Ladies 3-2 Morecambe Women FC Reserves
What a way to start the season! 💚
This game showed some brilliant character from our ladies, and we are so proud of every single one of them.
First Half
The first half started strongly, with our midfield three of Swales, Schofield and Troth working extremely well together to dominate the midfield.
Debutant Jess Hill in goal supported the back line brilliantly, with all four defenders doing a fantastic job. Johnstone and O. Smith showed every bit of strength to keep Morecambe out of the Belvedere box.
Belvedere broke through to score first, with Jeffrey showing brilliant composure to score her first goal of the season. 1-0
Second Half
Morecambe fought back early in the second half, scoring twice to turn the game around and take a 2-1 lead.
This didn’t stop Belvo. The work from everyone on the pitch was brilliant, especially Miller and Swales, who worked together to bring the team back into the game, with Swales finishing with a brilliant shot over the keeper. 2-2
With even more determination and fight, the Belvedere ladies worked extremely well as a team and created chance after chance.
We broke through once again with a brilliant ball in from Swales, which Jeffrey was on the end of to put Belvedere back in the lead. 3-2
With 10 minutes to go, the girls in green never stopped fighting for each other. N. Smith fought hard at the back, naturally stepping into the right-back role and keeping any balls coming past her. Hartley came close to adding another goal in the final seconds, but brilliant defending and goalkeeping from Morecambe saw the game finish 3-2.
We are extremely proud of the way the ladies played out there today. We also loved seeing so many happy faces before, during and after the game. 💚
⭐ Player of the Match
Our Player of the Match today was Katie Swales for her brilliant strength and all-round performance at CDM. She absolutely looked born to play there!
We look forward to our first game on the road next week.
