Burley In Wharfedale Cricket Club rewarded one of its Crowd Funder supporters with a bumper fresh food hamper from a village allotment .
Sarah Ramsden received a flyer asking to support the club. Aware of the work the club does for the youth of the village she pledged ยฃ20.
The reward for this amount was โa selection of seasonal fruit and vegetablesโ.
Sarah mentioned that the payment was largely made to support the club that had given so much to her own family and other young cricketers in the village. She hadnโt expected to redeem anything more than a few carrots and apples.
Sarah and the children were absolutely overwhelmed by what happened next.
โThe children and I had great fun on the allotment touring round with Dave letting the children pick everything. Our favourite has to be the sweetcorn which was being cooked and eaten within half an hour of leaving the allotments, weโve never had better! Iโm not sure whether the children enjoyed the picking or the eating more! Dave was so kind chatting through everything with us and letting the kids get stuck in. It was a brilliant way to spend an hour, right here in the village.โ
Whilst on the allotment they gathered Bramley and Keswick apples, marrows, golden courgettes a squash and a pumpkin, loose leaved lettuces, rainbow chard, kale,broccoli,beetroot,leeks,3 different types of potato, red and brown onions, dwarf and climbing French beans, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers .To add flavour to the vegetables herbs like fennel, mint, borage and basil were collected. On top of this a bunch of Michaelmas daisies and enough sunflowers to make Van Gogh reach for his paint brush were cut.
Sarah continued to say
โBurley in Wharfedale CC has always shown us nothing but kindness. The children have been members for three years and the team behind the scenes are incredible. It would be fantastic if they could enhance their work with improved facilities for the cricketers of the village.โ
