Buriton Tennis Club

Buriton Tennis Club Welcome to the official Buriton Tennis Club page. We are a well supported village tennis cl Please visit www.fastcourts.com

Although there was a grass court on the Recreation Ground before the Second World War, today’s Buriton Tennis Club was really only formed in the late 1970s – brought about by the late Peggy Larken, Don Hoolahan, Tom Hall and Leonard Sandford. The Club’s founders were keen to provide more opportunities for youngsters of the parish to play sport and to establish a club with informal, friendly tradit

ions. The Club’s Committee strives to maintain these ‘family’ traditions to this day – and well into the future. The Club helps to fund a qualified Coach, Paul Evans, who provides excellent support for scores of local youngsters – and for many others who are still young at heart! We organise regular club sessions, tournaments and social events. And teams represent the Club in local leagues and friendly matches: ladies, men’s and mixed doubles. During recent summers the Club offered free coaching sessions and ‘open court’ time to local children (aged under 16) and we hope to continue this arrangement into the future. Also in 2010 - 2011 we completely resurfaced and repainted both our courts, and our practice wall area, to provide excellent playing conditions. We endeavour to keep membership subscriptions at relatively modest levels but, in order to do this, we rely on the support of club members to help with other fund-raising events. Current annual membership fees

Juniors (under 16): £12
Students (16-18 years): £17
Adults: £45 each
Family Membership: £85
Fees are payable from 1st April each year. Membership Secretary: [email protected]

There was a fantastic turnout for the 14th annual Davis Cup tournament at Buriton. The sun shone and the rain held (mostly) and we were treated to fabulous outfits and some epic tennis battles. It was lovely to see so many members, old and new on the court as well as a few special guests make their debut.

After a full day of tennis on day 1, it was time to celebrate with a BBQ at the beautiful Manor Barn. There were quite a few sore heads in the morning! On day 2, Italy were just too good and took home the trophy at the end of play.

Enormous thanks go to our wonderful coach Paul, the kind owners of the barn for letting us party and everyone else behind the scenes who worked hard to make the tournament and party such great fun.

Well done everyone- same time, same place, next year!

This year’s Buriton TC finals day was split over three dates due to the unexpected hot weather.

The first sunny showdown in September saw Maria Hadjipateras & David Winter battle against Jeremy Watson & Paul Evans in the over 100s category. Spectators were treated to a highly entertaining match with a gripping second set. Maria & David were ultimately victorious and took home the trophy.

On Saturday 7th October the beautiful weather remained and previous winners Liz Hartley & Lucy Spooner played against Emily Hobbs & Emily Walls in a tense match with team Emily taking the win.

A full on Men's singles played by Chris Jones & David Winter was a hard fought match keeping us all on the edge of our seats with David Winter claiming his second win of the tournament.

Mixed doubles had David Winter & Emily Hobbs playing again for the second time that day vs. Emily Walls again with our very own home grown Max Jones. Another exciting match to watch with Max & Emily W picking up the silver wear.

Children from Buriton primary were on hand to provide a refreshments stall and thanks to some very enthusiastic selling tactics they managed to raise £98 for their school from the thirsty spectators. 👏

Unfortunately Due to injury, the Men's doubles (Paul Evans & Jack Burton vs. Chris Jones & Viggo Beecham) hasn't yet been played but we will keep you posted with the date.

A huge thank you from the organisers to all our tournament players, everyone who turned up to support the final matches and the Buriton Primary team for keeping us all refreshed.

Entries for next year’s tournament will open in the new year!
