Signature Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and Translation (INTRA6) Part 1 course, based at Manchester Deaf Centre.

Last weekend BSL Link for Communication was sad to say goodbye to their 2025 / 26 cohort. This group of 15 enthusiastic and motivated individuals comprised of 6 Deaf and 9 hearing students - the majority based in the Midlands, and further North. We are delighted that students are keen to join our courses; it is testimony to the high quality (friendly and accessible) training that we aim to provide.

Saturday saw this hard working group taking mock assessments in Translation, BSL / English Interpreting and Deaf Relay (Intralingual) interpreting, in order to gain experience before starting Part 2 of this Diploma. We are very grateful to those that gave up their time to support with the assessment roleplays on Saturday - a happy group of students (and ‘facilitators’) went out for a drink in the evening to ‘toast’ the end of a successful day, and the course itself!

We would also like to thank Byron Campbell (our lead trainer) for another successful course, and also to thank all the ‘visiting’ speakers / signers that contributed over the 8 teaching weekends. The range of subjects and skills that they delivered between them was fundamental in making the course interesting and enjoyable for all.

We are hoping it’s definitely a case of ‘au revoir’ rather than goodbye, as we are aiming to commence delivery of the INTRA6 Part 2 course this September, and are looking forward to working (once again) with some of this year’s cohort.

If you have completed Part 1 of the Signature INTRA6 and are interested in attending the Part 2 course, please contact: [email protected] for further information.

BSL Link for Communication are pleased to offer an online workshop with Robyn Dean –

It's like I am not really there": Ethical reasoning skills and the Interpreting profession

Since its inception, the Sign Language Interpreting profession has grounded itself in principles of access, empowerment, allyship, and, more recently, social justice for Deaf individuals. However, when compared to other service-based professions and broader justice-oriented philosophies, the field arguably falls short due to limited ethical frameworks within Community Interpreting.

Saturday 3rd October from 11am - 2pm - £48.00

BSL Interpreters can be provided

Robyn Dean has been a Sign Language Interpreter for over twenty-five years and is currently an Associate Professor in ASL and Interpreting Education at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the USA. She is internationally recognised for her contributions to research on decision-making and ethics in Community Interpreting and is the co-author of the book The Demand Control Schema: Interpreting as a Practice Profession with Robert Pollard.
