Stats Update Week Two

Another week and another centurion in the 1st XI with Wilf Tunley-Lo reaching three figures for the first time with a magnificent 132 against West Chiltington & Thakeham Cricket Club, becoming the 130th BHCC centurion. Wilf also passed 1,000 league runs in the process. Also in the 1's there were league debuts for Corey Jarvis and Will Brownsell. Will took his first 1's wicket, while our new overseas, Chad Classen, picked up his first league wicket for the club. Lenny Burgess reached 25 fielding dismissals for BHCC.

The 2nd XI took five league debutants to St Matthias CC, Toby and George Cranfield, Senthil Kumar Palaniappan, Pranav Kiruthik and Finley Wright all making their competitive bow for Andrew Davies' team. Senthil took his first wicket for the club, while Finley, Toby, George and Charlie Ward all took their first 2nd XI wickets. Finley also passed 30 fielding dismissals, while George reached 45 victims in the field!

The 3rd XI also had five players playing their first game for the team in James Frost, Arthur Tunley-Lo, Oscar Knowles, Angus Glyn-Jones and Pete Walker, who took his first BHCC wickets in a spell of 2 for 34. Toby Andersson reached 50 career fielding dismissals as the team came up a little short against Southwick and Shoreham.

Debuts were very much a theme of the weekend with Merlin Gallery, Thomas Wylie, Noah Coulson and Matilda Parker all turning out for the 4th XI for the first time against Rottingdean CC. Skipper Rob Gaunt's 34 was enough to take him past 500 runs for the club, while a sharp catch also took him to 20 fielding dismissals. Max Thomas's 4 for 7 saw him produce career best bowling figures.

Completing the action for the Saturday teams, the 5th XI claimed a brilliant win over Hurstpierpoint Cricket Club. With three debutants (Orlaith Jarvis, Leon Moyse and Mansav Girdhar), they dismissed the hosts for 149. Orlaith's 3 for 14 was her best figures in adult cricket and took her past 25 career wickets. Sam Howard's 3 for 20 were also a PB in adult cricket and Tommy Chadburn collected his first scalp for the 5's as well. The team chased down their target with 8 wickets remaining, Sandeep Girdhar's unbeaten 59 (1st BHCC 50) and Tommy's 34 not out (HS in adult cricket passing 250 runs in the process) seeing them home. Bharath Muthukkrishnan also went past 250 BHCC runs with an assured 44.

In the Under 14's, Avaneesh Bonthu produced best bowling figures of 2 for 10 including a first wicket for BHCC, while Oscar Knowles passed 500 career runs.

The Women's Softball team beat Lindfield Cricket Club by 12 runs in a game that saw Bella Hockaday take her first wicket in the softball format.

The Under 11 Girls got their season off to a winning start at Balcombe Cricket Club, where Ada Herve scored a PB of 25 and Karunya Sivashankar picked up her first BHCC wicket!

The Under 13's mixed team produced a brilliant all-round performance in their opening league game. Jimmy Charman picked up his first club wicket with figures of 1 for 11. Teddy Bush-Harris's 2 for 4 was also a PB, while Cora Saunders' 2 for 3 were her best figures for BHCC. In the batting innings, Isla Charman passed 150 runs.

In the U13 B team's game, we saw two career best scores as Theo Williams retired on 31 and Lewis Pained retired on 30, passing 100 runs in the process. Ben Smith's wicket in his spell of 1 for 6 was his first for BHCC.

The Women's Slam team secured a win at St Peters CC. Millie Wickwar reached 35 career wickets and Charley Hepburn reached 130 career fielding dismissals. Naomi Hamilton picked up her first Slam wicket as did Abi Dixon. Grace Humphreys made her Slam debut alongside Naomi and Abi.

The Women's 1st XI saw two players make their Premier League debut at Ansty on a freezing cold day yesterday. Orlaith Jarvis and Naomi Hamilton both impressed on debut against an impressive home side before the team made the short trip to Cuckfield for a second T20. An excellent opening partnership of 147 set a decent total with Naomi hitting her first BHCC 50 (and 7th overall), making a career best 72. Charley Hepburn also scored her 18th career half century (and 10th for the Women's 1st XI) while making an unbeaten 52. Unfortunately, in terms of the result, the team was on the receiving end of a blistering 118 not out off 56 balls from Cuckfield's Sharne Mayers, who took her team to victory in the Baltic conditions.
