ST ANDREWS 2s WIN BY 8 WICKETS | vs Lingfield 3s - Saturday 13 June 2026
Back after last week’s washout, and straight back to winning ways — St Andrews win by 8 wickets to stay 2nd in the league ahead of Plumpton at home next week.
Lingfield chose to bat and started watchfully on a surface offering plenty for the seamers, the breakthrough came after Jack Barton took a diving catch of Jack Woods to remove Britt with the hosts on 32-1 in the 15th over.
Kyle Jones then turned the screw immediately. With relentless control, he removed Olckers and Mills in quick succession, finishing 2-14 off 9, as Lingfield slipped to 34-3.
At that stage the hosts rebuilt, with Smallcorn playing the aggressive role and targeting Jack Barton’s bowling, with Barton going for 18 in his only over as Lingfield found momentum and moved to 90-3 — not a day for spin, and St Andrews quickly reverted back to seam options.
Veera Padala was then brought back into the attack and struck with the final ball of his second over of the spell to remove the dangerous Smallcorn for 47 — the key wicket just as Lingfield looked set. What followed was chaos: returning next over, Veera took Eakins first ball, then Wallace first ball, completing a genuine hat-trick as Lingfield crashed from 90-3 to 95-6 in just three deliveries.
From there the innings never recovered any momentum. Dan Campbell showed promise on debut, finding good areas (1-21 off 3), while Viggy ran in tirelessly through 8 straight overs, building constant pressure without reward (0-28). Woods then returned for his second spell to finish the job in ruthless fashion, removing Calver, Chilman and Turner to complete a superb 4-27 (7.5).
Across the innings the fielding stayed sharp and aggressive throughout, with the whole side backing up the bowlers in a high-quality display. Ryan Box was excellent behind the stumps, taking a sharp catch to dismiss the dangerous Smallcorn.
Lingfield were bowled out for 135.
Chasing 136, St Andrews started positively but lost Chatterjee for 1. Jay was then unfortunate after an excellent catch at short extra cover from a rocket drive, while Josh Jones looked good before retiring hurt on 11.
Rob Amati anchored the innings after the early loss, remaining unbeaten on 36 (56)* and holding things together through the middle phase. When Josh retired hurt, Boxy walked in and took control of the chase.
What followed was a brutal dismantling of the attack. He targeted the short boundary from ball one and changed the game in a matter of overs, highlighted by a devastating 28-run over off Turner — four sixes in a row — as Lingfield’s total evaporated as a contest.
Box finished unbeaten on 55 off 21 balls (7 sixes) as St Andrews cruised to 141-2 in 19.2 overs.
Box takes Man of the Match for a match-winning all-round impact, while Woods again finishes with 4-27 (7.5) and will feel extremely unlucky to miss out on the award for a second consecutive game after back-to-back four-wicket hauls.
A most complete all-round performance of the season so far.
Thanks to Poppi for scoring and Darren for umpiring.
