No one really talks about how much you can lose yourself after becoming a mum.

Not just physically — but mentally and emotionally too.

I didn’t recognise myself anymore.
I didn’t know how to dress.
I wasn’t moving my body in the way I used to.

And as someone who works in the fitness industry…
I felt like a fraud.

How could I help other women feel strong and confident when I didn’t feel that way myself?

But the truth is — this is something so many mums go through.

Your whole world shifts.
Your priorities change.
And somewhere along the way… you get lost in it all.

This year, I’m not trying to get back to the “old me.”

I’m rebuilding.

Learning who I am now.
Finding strength again — physically and mentally.
Letting go of guilt.
And creating a version of me that actually fits this season of life.

A version that feels strong, calm, and confident again.

If you’ve been feeling a bit lost in motherhood, I want you to know — you’re not alone in this 🤍

Have you ever felt like you lost a part of yourself after becoming a mum?
I’d love to know — what’s felt hardest for you?

We are now midway through week 3 and I am slowly stating to feel a bit more like myself again. I haven’t self-coached in a looong time.

I have treated myself as a client and set myself weekly goals that are achievable for me to help set myself up for success, not failure 👍 it would have been too easy for me to think about what I used to do and aim for the same, but the fact is I don’t have the same flexibility I used to have with my goals trying to fit everything in around all life throws at you just isn’t possible for me right now. I am also 6-weeks post surgery and still having a few niggles here and there so having to take training nice and easy.

Here’s what I’ve been doing, I have set myself ranged goals rather than a set target, this allows me to flexible and listen to my body but still moving forward towards reaching my goals.

Here’s the run down:
👣 8-10k steps daily
🏃🏻‍♀️30-40 mins cardio per week
💪 1-2 training sessions
🍽️ 1750-1900 calories per day
🍗 140-160g protein per day
💦 2-3 litres water a day
😴 7-9 hours sleep per night

I have also had a couple of untracked days around social events, but even with that everything has been moving along nicely and I’m happy with how things are progressing.

If you’re tired of starting over and want support building consistency in a realistic, guilt-free way, this is exactly what I help mums with 🤍

Well it’s been a hot minute (well almost a year) 🤯

Truth be told, I have struggled prioritising my own health and fitness goals since becoming a mum. I know exactly what I want to achieve and how to do it, but I have struggled with mum guilt and maintaining some form of consistent effort towards reaching those goals.

When my son was first born I was breastfeeding, so that really wasn’t the time to start dieting (not if I wanted to maintain my supply) 🥛 I was doing some home workouts with the odd gym session here and there but it was a bit sporadic. I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my son and felt guilty if I left him.

Before I knew it, maternity leave was over and it was back to work and trying to juggle work, childcare, maintaining our home and fitting in some form of exercise for myself.

We’re now over 2 years into this whirlwind of a journey that is parenthood and I have made it my mission to prioritise myself again so I can feel a bit more like myself. I have set the goal of being consistent for 12 weeks, nothing crazy, not perfection, but consistent.

I am now tracking my food for a while (as I definitely wasn’t getting enough protein in my diet), I have set my calories in a moderate deficit, aiming for an average loss of 0.4-0.8kg a week. Activity wise, I have set goals that I am reviewing weekly for training sessions, steps and cardio. I am a week in now and things are moving along nicely! 😎

I’m committing to 12 weeks of showing up for myself — imperfectly but consistently.

If you’re a mum who wants to prioritise your health again too, comment “ME” or send me a message. We’re not doing this alone 🤍

My ‘why’ for training and eating well has changed so much since becoming a mum. It’s no longer about aesthetics or competition – now it’s all about keeping up with my son, being strong, and setting a healthy example. Fitness is about energy, balance, and long-term health, and I’m embracing that every day. 💪

Who else has had their ‘why’ evolve? Share your journey and what keeps you going!

Carbs make you gain weight 🍞🥖🥐🥨

❌ MYTH ❌

Many people believe cutting carbs is the key to losing weight, but it’s actually about overall calorie balance and the quality of carbs. Whole grains and complex carbs can be part of a healthy diet.

🤷‍♀️ So where does this myth come from?

When you eat carbohydrates, your body breaks them down into glucose, which is used for immediate energy or stored as glycogen in your muscles and liver. For every gram of glycogen stored, the body also retains about 3–4 grams of water.

So, when you increase your carbohydrate intake, more glycogen is stored, and your body holds onto more water as a result. This can lead to a temporary increase in “water weight,” which may be mistaken for fat gain. However, this weight is largely due to water retention, not actual body fat, and it can fluctuate based on your carb intake.

Hey everyone! 👋 I’ve had a few new followers so thought I would introduce myself!

I’m Sam, the face behind The Figure Movement. A little about me: I’ve been on quite a journey with my body — from being overweight and not looking after my body, to bodybuilding where I pushed my body to extremes, and now to becoming a mum. Through it all, I’ve experienced firsthand the complex relationship between body, food, and exercise.

With a mix of evidence-based practices and CBT techniques, I now help others find balance and build a healthier mindset. Whether you’re looking to change your body, heal your relationship with food, or get moving in a way that feels good, I’m here to guide you!

Proud is an understatement!!

After completing back in 2021 and then receiving the exciting news that it is now a level 5 accredited course, how could I not do the bridging assessment 🤷‍♀️

But little did I know just how hard it would be to study with a new baby 🤪 but anyone that knows me, knows I like a challenge!

I sat my exams when Evan was 4 and a half months old and I am pleased to say that I have passed and I am now a level 5 MNU certified nutritionist 👩‍🎓
