Turning up and doing the sessions you don’t want to do!

For me the bike element of a triathlon is the part that I struggle the most with. Especially when it comes to training. I’m definitely a fair weather cyclist so training over the winter is a challenge and getting on my Wattbike knowing there are threshold intervals to do is a struggle.

But I get on, put some decent music on and get them done as I know this will benefit me come race day!

What sessions do you dislike? How do you get them done?

Not all runs should be the same effort level.

15-20 years I fell into this trap, going out and doing a set distance at the quickest pace I could maintain.

As I’ve got older and wiser I’ve learnt that this isn’t the right formula for success. Take my runs this week for example as I started my build block ahead of Berlin Half Marathon in March.

πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ A speed session with a 1:1 work:rest ratio
πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ A threshold pace block
πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ An Easy Run.

All serving a different purpose:
πŸ’₯ Building pace to help with overall race pace in 4 months
πŸ’₯ Being able to maintain a quicker threshold pace long term
πŸ’₯ Building the aerobic base

All runs will help stimulate different physiological responses that will be needed to hopefully claim a PB come race day.
