🔵 Underwood Tournament ⚪️
Firstly, thank you to everyone for coming today and for your support once again It means everything, especially with it being back to back tournaments.
🔵 Group stages ⚪️
We came into the tournament in group B with some quality sides once again.
Spondon dynamos (prem)
FDNA Milan (Div 1)
Underwood Villa Tigres (Div 2)
Heanor town (Div 2)
🔵 Game 1 vs Spondon Dynamos ⚪️
The boys didn’t get going and shown too much respect to their opponents, as soon as we conceded a goal the boys heads dropped and you just can’t do that against a side like Spondon, the lads went on to lose 6-0.
🔵 Game 2 vs Underwood Villa ⚪️
After getting game one out the way, the lads got the ball down and started playing football like we know they can, after going one nil down after a controversial decision with the ball going out of play, the grit and determination was there and Sharp got it back to 1-1 but a last minute goal gave the lads their second loss losing 2-1.
🔵 Game 3 vs FDNA Milan ⚪️
FDNA came into this game on a 100% record so we knew it would be another tough game, the lads battled hard thought out the match but ended up with a 3-0 loss.
🔵 Game 4 vs Heanor town ⚪️
Final group game and the lads were hungry for a win and didn’t let up on the opponents, Sharp made it 1-0 and bombarded the goal but again in the last minutes another controversial decision was made against Warren for a hand ball outside the area which was given for a penalty…Wilkinson stepped up and saved the penalty with a quality save which he’d been doing all tournament. 1-0 win for the lads.
🔵 Quarterfinals vs Quarrydale United (Div 1)⚪️
Two weeks on a trot and the lads reach the knockout stages, the game was back and forth with crucial saves from Wilkinson and the opponents keeper to keep the game 0-0 which it ended. Extra time came with the tournaments power play golden goal with 1 player removed from each team every time the ball leaves play until a 2v2 is reached, The game will play out until a goal is scored. As extra time went on it was down to Hayward and Wilkinson unfortunately after all their hard work the opposition managed to get the crucial goal and again getting knocked out by the tournament winners.
🔵 Thoughts ⚪️
We entered both tournaments know it was going to be a real challenge for us with us facing teams no lower than Div 2.
We are mixing amongst the best and we are playing some lovely ball, holding our own and showcasing our strengths which we can be very proud of.
The past two weekends may not have gained us a trophy but my god we walk away stronger and better having raised your own standards and we are very proud of each and everyone of you 🙏🏼
We came into this struggling to find our feet in Div 3 and we walk away knowing we have gave prem sides a run for their money. Weather we won, drew or made them work for their win.
It might not have been the outcome any of you wanted but you have shown growth, grit and resilience which is something we simply cannot teach.
Keep doing you team because your making everyone smile and proud 🩵
