The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society is delighted to announce that Gethin Lewis of Glan Elan, Cwmdauddwr, Rhayader, has been named the winner of the 2026 Dr Emrys Evans Award.

Each year, the award focuses on a different theme and this year it is presented to an individual under the age of 35 who is making a significant contribution and excelling in sheep shearing in Wales – an industry in which Wales continues to set world-leading standards.

The judges described him as “an outstanding ambassador for sheep shearing, an exceptional role model for the next generation, and a thoroughly deserving recipient of this award.”

All 10 nominated candidates reflect the strength and depth of emerging talent within Welsh shearing, with each making a valuable contribution to the industry.

Bob blwyddyn, mae ffocws y wobr ar thema wahanol ac eleni fe’i cyflwynir i unigolyn o dan 35 oed sy’n gwneud cyfraniad sylweddol ac yn rhagori ym maes cneifio defaid yng Nghymru – diwydiant lle mae Cymru’n dal i osod safonau sy’n arwain y byd.

Disgrifiodd y beirniaid ef fel “llysgennad neilltuol dros gneifio defaid, model rôl rhagorol i’r genhedlaeth nesaf, a derbynnydd haeddiannol iawn ar gyfer y wobr hon.”

Roedd pob un o’r 10 ymgeisydd a enwebwyd yn adlewyrchu nerth a dyfnder y talent sy’n dod i’r amlwg ym maes cneifio yng Nghymru, gyda phob un yn gwneud cyfraniad gwerthfawr i’r diwydiant.

🍻🏃‍♂️ BEER RACE NIGHT IS HERE! 🏃‍♀️🍻
Tonight sees the return of one of the most popular events of Builth Fest Week – the Beer Race!
This year brings a brand-new route, new challenges, and plenty of fun as teams make their way around Builth Wells representing local pubs, clubs and organisations.
From Broad Street to the Groe and back to the Football Club, competitors will face 13 checkpoints, challenges, refreshments and hopefully a few laughs along the way!
A huge thank you to all the volunteers, checkpoint marshals, sponsors and teams taking part.
I'll be out on the route throughout the evening bringing you updates, photos and videos from the action.
Good luck to everyone taking part – and remember, it's not always the fastest team that wins... sometimes it's the team still standing at the finish! 🍺😂

Starting at The Lion Car Park, competitors will tackle a route taking in some of Builth Wells' best-known venues before heading for the finish line! 🍺🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
