Roots Rugby

Roots Rugby Roots rugby (touch rugby) is a collaborative social project between Builth Wells RFC, Back To Roots and PixelHaze.

Our aim is to provide a free, weekly opportunity for people in and around Builth Wells to get out in the sunshine and throw a ball around!

❌ Due to the fact that the weather is patchy today, and the grass is likely to be too wet, we are going to cancel barefoot football this evening.

We are also wrapping up for the season with training kicking in.

A huge thank you to everyone who has come along and given it a go this summer. We hope to be back next year! 🦶⚽️

We are taking a short break from the barefoot football this week due to instructors being away. Weather permitting, we will be back next Tuesday at 6pm and will continue until the end of August.

🦶Barefoot football is cancelled tonight ‼️

As Roots barefoot football is best enjoyed in warm, dry conditions - we have made the decision to cancel today.

The plan is to be back next Tuesday at 6pm, however, I just need to check a few things in relation to potential impact from the Royal Welsh Show. I’ll post an update nearer the time.

I also wanted to thank everyone who has joined in and supported our crazy little experiment over the past couple of weeks - we have had over 40 kids (of many generations) join in and have a go each week.

It’s been a lot of fun so far 👍

Last week’s trial of barefoot football went really well - managed to get a few parents involved as a bonus!

The Insurance coverage has been sorted, so we have the green light to run it as a weekly event (alternating between barefoot football and touch rugby) until the end of August, every Tuesday at 6, weather permitting. It will be non-contact football again tomorrow evening.

We’ll be back on the Lant in front of the football clubhouse again tomorrow between 6-7.

We are going to have a go at changing things up this year - here are the key changes we are proposing:

- alternating between non-contact football and minimal contact touch rugby
- barefoot sports
- guideline age range is now reduced to 8+ (although younger children can join in if a parent or guardian consents and joins in with them).

We are running a trial for the event tonight at 6pm at our new home (The Lant, Builth Wells). Feel free to come down and find out what it is all about.

If you are interested in joining, but cannot make it tonight, send us a message.

Roots always has been (and always will be) free to join - we want kids from 8-99 to come along, get a bit of light fitness and have a bit of fun. Beach sports without the sand….
