The weather had the final say at the Doc White Ground on Saturday, with Bugbrooke Cricket Club 1st XI’s fixture against North Crawley Cricket Club 1st XI abandoned after just 25 overs.

Bugbrooke were enjoying an excellent afternoon with the bat when the rain arrived, having raced to an imposing 179/4 from 25 overs.

🏏 Mobi Khawaja led the charge with a superb 60 from just 42 deliveries, while Mohsin Ahmed contributed an excellent 46 from 57 balls.

Captain Afaq Babar also took the attack to North Crawley, hitting 46 from only 40 balls, as Bugbrooke built a commanding total at more than seven runs an over.

Unfortunately, worsening conditions brought the innings — and ultimately the match — to a premature end. With no further play possible, North Crawley never got the opportunity to bat and the match was abandoned due to rain.

Bugbrooke Cricket Club 3rd XI continued their excellent season with another important victory on Saturday, defeating Stony Stratford CC 6th XI by four wickets at Wicken to move up to 2nd place in Division 12 West! 👏

Bugbrooke won the toss and elected to field, with the bowlers putting together a disciplined performance to restrict Stony Stratford to 157/8 from their 40 overs.

Kyle Packman led the attack superbly, returning 4-33, while Tony Malone continued his impressive form with 3-26. John Stretton picked up the other wicket with 1-42, as Bugbrooke ensured they had a very achievable target to chase.

The reply didn’t get off to the ideal start, but Edward Trafford helped steady the innings with a positive 30 from 36 balls before Stretton took control of the chase.

John produced the decisive innings of the afternoon, striking 59 from 70 balls, including eight fours, to put the 3rds firmly on course for victory. Jonny Ashley provided valuable support with 21, while Steven Hobbs added 19.

After Stretton’s dismissal, Kyle Packman (14)* and Tony Malone (2)* saw Bugbrooke safely over the line, reaching 158/6 in 35.3 overs to complete a four-wicket victory and secure another 20 points.

Bugbrooke CC 2nd XI suffered a 76-run defeat against Wollaston CC 3rd XI at the Bugbrooke Playing Field on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Bugbrooke faced a Wollaston side who posted a sizeable 242 all out from 36.5 overs.

Pat Johansen led the way with the ball, returning an excellent 3-31 from eight overs, while William Howarth bowled tightly for his 2-28 from seven, including two maidens. Dan Starmer also picked up two wickets with 2-31, while skipper Ben Packman claimed 2-38 and Michael Chapman took the remaining wicket.

Facing a challenging target of 243, Bugbrooke struggled to build the partnerships needed as Wollaston regularly chipped away with wickets.

At 83-7, the game looked in danger of ending quickly, but Ed Malone and Dan Starmer produced the standout partnership of the innings to give the score some respectability.

Malone top-scored with an attacking 40 from 45 balls, finding the boundary eight times, while Starmer struck 26 from just 26 deliveries with five fours.

After Starmer was run out, Michael Chapman added an entertaining 18 from 28 balls and combined with Will Howarth to take Bugbrooke beyond 150. Chapman was eventually the final man dismissed, leaving Howarth unbeaten on 11 as Bugbrooke were bowled out for 166 in 36.3 overs.

A tough afternoon for the 2nd XI, but seven league points were still secured from the defeat.
