It's National Read a Book Day. What are you reading at the moment and would you recommend it to others?

There were some outstanding performances in the Junior Open at East Devon on Sunday. Players travelled from all around Devon and Cornwall and competition was strong.

The Champion golfer of the day, with the lowest gross score - an outstanding 72 - was Sophie Page. Sophie also achieved the lowest nett score (63) and stableford score of 45 points. A fantastic performance - congratulations Sophie!

Miles McMurdo was a close second (gross 75/ nett 64) and Harry Edworthy was third (gross 75/ nett 71).

Callum Gore and Harry Smith were runners up in the nett prizes each with nett 65.

The atmosphere was very positive, friendly and competitive and played a part in an impressive number of players shooting scores well below their handicaps.

The 9 hole competition for starter golfers was won by Tia Pring with 25 points.

Here’s three handy tips on golf etiquette for the week!

When a playing partner is swinging or putting, try to stand out of his or her line of vision, and remain quiet during the other golfer’s swing.

Never walk through a playing partner’s putting line. Your footprints might alter the path of a partner’s putt. Step over the putting line or walk around (behind) the partner’s ball.

Be aware of your shadow on the putting green. Don’t stand in a place that causes your shadow to be cast across another player or that player’s putting line

We’re pleased to host the Lions Golf Day 2021 today. The event is organised by the Budleigh Salterton Lions and this year is supporting ‘Diabetes and Vascular Research’ at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. We hope all the teams entering have a great day!
