Meg and Tom did exactly that during their incredible coastering session at the breathtaking Bossiney Bay. They climbed rugged cliffs, discovered hidden caves, swam through crystal-clear water and shared plenty of laughter along the way.

It’s been a great week working through the SLSGB Beach Lifeguard program with this bunch of legends.

They have all worked extremely hard on their rescue skills, first aid and theory throughout the week culminating in a successful assessment today.

All of this group have enrolled on the course for different reasons ranging including work with the RNLI as a Beach Lifeguard, Surf Coaching, Coasteering Guides, supporting the surf travel industry and up skilling as part of their own personal development.

Every year at Freewave Surf Academy, we try to give something back to our amazing community here in Bude💙

As part of the Bude Food Bank Winter Appeal, we’re really proud to share that this year we have donated £430 to the Food Bank, along with £225 in Freewave activity vouchers. The money raised will go towards the important work that the Food Bank do and the vouchers will be used to help local individuals and families enjoy activities that they might not normally be able to access.

The Bude Food Bank does incredible work supporting people in our community who are facing difficult times. Through the generosity of volunteers, donors and local businesses, they provide essential food supplies and practical support to individuals and families when they need it most. Their work makes a real difference, especially during the winter months.

We’ve been proud to support the Bude Food Bank as our chosen charity since 2021. Over that time we’ve now raised nearly £2500 to help support their important work.

A massive thank you to Sue who steers the ship at the Bude Food Bank. She is an absolute diamond and it’s always a pleasure to stop by each year to see her and her great team.

A big thank you to everyone who supports Freewave and helps make contributions like this possible. Local community supporting local community — just the way it should be. 🌊

This course qualifies successful candidates with the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) — the essential and industry-recognised beach lifeguard qualification required to work as a:

🏄‍♂️ RNLI Beach Lifeguard
🏄 Surfing Instructor (ISA, ASI, SurfingGB etc)
🤙 Bodyboarding Instructor
🧭 Coasteering Guide
🌊 And other sea-based roles!

What’s Included?

✅ 5 days of training + 1 day assessment
✅ Expert coaching from experienced SLSGB Trainer/Assessors
✅ Comprehensive skills in water rescue, beach safety, first aid & more
✅ All specialist equipment, course manuals, assessment & insurance included (course £350)
✅ Certificate valid for 24 months on successful completion

Training You Can’t Get Anywhere Else:

Freewave Training has been delivering the beach lifeguard program for over 13 years. We have a high rate of candidates that go straight in to employment with 100% of candidates last year gaining employment as beach lifeguards for the RNLI.

We use Bude’s unique natural training locations including the iconic Bude Sea Pool, the sheltered beach of Summerleaze Bay as well as other open surf beaches — giving you real-world experience you’ll never forget.

💪 Be ready to get physical — this course includes swimming and running to set times, rescue scenarios, classroom work, and online knowledge checks designed to build confidence and competence.

Course Requirements:

✔ 16+ years old
✔ Confident swimmer
✔ Comfortable with a long surf/rescue board in breaking waves
