🎣 IMPORTANT UPDATE – MONDAY CLOSING 🎣

After giving it a lot of thought, We’ve decided that going forward, the shops will be CLOSED on Mondays.

There are a couple of simple reasons behind the decision.

Firstly, our staff work incredibly hard and deserve a proper break. With us choosing to open on Sundays, closing on a Monday gives everyone a chance to recharge.

Secondly, We feel being OPEN SUNDAYS is far more useful to our customers – especially those wanting to grab bait or tackle and get out fishing at the weekend. 🎣

So from now on:

MONDAY – CLOSED ❌
TUESDAY–SATURDAY – 9AM–5PM ✅
SUNDAY – 9AM–1PM ✅

Thank you as always for your continued support of both shops. It genuinely means a lot to us.

🧐 DO YOU KNOW THIS LAD 🧐

We hate posting negative stuff on our socials but at the same time will not have anyone forgetting to pay for there goods.

We have put several posts out giving a chance to return and hopefully we would like to think he is not local given what we do for juniors and getting them out fishing.

We are a small independent business and acts such as this can be catastrophic to keep us offering the wonderful service we give you all.

We do also understand kids will be kids but just come and have a chat with us if you are in need.

WE WILL UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES JUST ACCEPT THAT PEOPLE FORGET TO PAY OR THAT THINGS JUST GO MISSING. EVERY ONE NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL WILL BE DEALT WITH IN THE SAME WAY. THIS IS MINE AND MY FAMILIES LIFE.

If you do recognise this lad we would like to give him the opportunity (as mentioned in previous post) to return and pay for what he took and that will be that.

This has been reported to the police who are a great help but it just becomes another theft statistic within our system and would also hate to think a junior angler would get in trouble for a silly mistake.

We have a great community building here in Bude and love what we do with a passion! LETS KEEP IT GOING 🎣🎣🎣.

🚨 A MESSAGE TO SHOPLIFTERS — ZERO TOLERANCE 🚨

A post for the young lad who thought it was OK to help himself to items from our Guru stand in Bude today — you have until Sunday to return to the shop and pay for what you took.

We have clear CCTV footage of the incident and sliding the item up your sleeve.

We’re giving you the opportunity to come back, put it right and pay for the items before Sunday. If you choose not to, the footage and details of the incident will be passed to the police and the matter will be pursued.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built at Bude Bait & Tackle and Barnstaple Bait and Tackle.

We do a huge amount to support our local angling community, particularly junior anglers, and we will continue to do so.

Unfortunately, we now need to make something very clear:

THEFT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

We work hard to keep our prices fair, support local events, help youngsters get into fishing and give back to the community. Stealing from a small independent business ultimately takes away from our ability to keep doing those things and will seriously affect the business.

The most frustrating part is that if you’re genuinely struggling and there’s something you need to get out fishing, TALK TO US.

We would much rather help someone than have them steal from us.

Please respect our shops, our staff and the angling community we’re working hard to support.

TARGETING SMALL-EYED RAYS

Ben’s been out with the family targeting the rays — and it certainly produced! 💥

If you’re looking to get amongst some rays locally, here are a few of Ben’s top tips that could help put you on the fish 👇🏻

🏖️ Location: Any of the North Cornish beaches can produce.

🌊 Tides: Low water can be particularly productive — try the last 2 hours of the ebb and first 2 hours of the flood. That said, rays can turn up throughout the tide.

🔎 Find the features: It’s well worth walking the beach at low water during daylight and studying the ground. Look for areas where the surf flattens out and the sand becomes bumpy or rippled. These features can be key to finding where the rays are feeding — and can make the difference between catching and blanking!

🦑 Baits: Ben’s go-to at this time of year is a sandeel and squid cocktail (see the picture in the comments). Later in the year, he’s also a big fan of anchovies and herring.

🎣 Rig: His go-to is the Take Me Out Dongle Pulley Rig.

⚓ Leads: 6oz grip leads will usually be enough to hold bottom, but if there’s a bit more swell, it’s worth carrying a few 7oz leads too.

🎯 Don’t overcast: If you’ve found the right feature and are fishing into a good trough, you don’t always need a huge cast. Sometimes 40 yards is more than enough to put your bait in the fish’s zone.

These are the sort of simple pointers Ben uses to put numbers and some quality Small-Eyed Rays on the beach. He might not be giving away his exact marks 😉, but hopefully these tips will point you in the right direction and help you get amongst them!
