Do you prioritise it? ⠀
I’ve had a few messages through about the magic C-word. WHAT it is? WHY do we need it? HOW do we get it? So, I thought I’d break it down. ⠀

🤷‍♀️WHAT is it! It’s definitely been a craze for sometime now & rightly so. Our collagen is a very complex protein in our skin & connective tissue, responsible for the strength of bones, ligaments, skin, muscles & hair. Kinda like the glue that holds us together.⠀

🙆‍♀️WHY we need it! As we age, our collagen levels drop, which can result in wrinkles, thinning hair or joint pain. So it IS important to keep those levels high. ⠀
As well as this, a collagen rich diet also boosts...⠀
😴Your sleep⠀
🙂Your immune system ⠀
🤓Your brain function ⠀
🤩 Metabolism ⠀
🥰 Protects the heart⠀
🙃Energy levels ⠀

Keeping your workouts versatile not only benefits your body, but your mind too! We are creatures of habit, so it’s tempting to stick to the same routine, but this can quickly lead to a plateau, leaving you feeling frustrated & demotivated😴⠀

✅Here are 3 benefits to shaking it up! ⠀

1⃣Sharper mind ⠀
Hell yes! Learning new skills or activities gets those neurons firing & also boosts Neuton production. Breaking that ‘autopilot’ setting can work wonders for your memory.⠀

2⃣Boosts weightloss⠀
Yepppp! I don’t like to shout about weight-loss, I’m here for the muscle build & weight GAIN but it’s no surprise that our bodies become efficient when faced with the same workout. Ding d**g 🛎 meaning we burn less calories.. So you can be doing the same workout, but find you’ve hit a wall to weight-loss.. I’m sure we’ve allllll had moments like this in lockdown🙋🏼‍♀️⠀

3⃣Works hidden muscle groups ⠀

If you don’t, you might want to start. Why? Because this is a short & simple process, that can have a profound impact on your happiness & general wellbeing🌱⠀

I’ll dive straight in with the basic neurological benefits. Our brains are obedient & our brains like patterns. The more we practice something, the quicker we build pathways & something becomes second nature. ⠀
Now, gratitude practice, expressing or receiving releases D O P A M I N E one of our favourite neurotransmitter of all time. Why? Cos it’s our happppy hormone😆 The more we practice this, the more we connect the behaviour with the feel good vibe & boom! The more dopamine is released each time💥 ⠀

But it’s not just about the dopamine..Studies over the years have shown that gratitude practice benefits us in numerous other ways....⠀

✅Lower levels of cellular inflammation ⠀
✅Better quality sleep ⠀
✅Lowers stress levels ⠀
✅Greater resilience in everyday life ⠀
✅Encourages patience ⠀
✅Higher life satisfaction⠀
✅Happier moods ⠀

H O W ... where to start? 🤔⠀

📝 If you enjoy writing or journaling, try writing three specific things from that day that your are grateful for, morning or evening. I love doing mine in the morning with a ☕ ⠀

👨👩👧👦 If you have a family, try going round the dinner table & saying 1 thing each that you’re grateful for before you start your meal. ⠀

🧘🏼If you’re a daily meditator, practice your gratitude post medi. List 3 things in your head that you’re grateful for. ⠀

😴 If you just want to do a little day reflection before drifting off to sleep, list your gratitude practice in those moments before you drift off. Your logic has quietened down you’re in the perfect limbic bubble to focus on you. ⠀

Turn that frown upside down🙃
I’m kidding! Sometimes it isn’t that easy right? I’ve had a rough couple of days here in lockdown, Week 8 & it’s taking it toll🤯 Why? Because I’ve never felt more out of control of my life. Ever.⚠️
After a few days feeling sorry for myself, I got journaling & tried to nut out where this was coming from. I realised I had to try & take back some control & the only way to do this was to shift my mindset🙋🏼‍♀️
Here’s a few sure fire hacks to help you break your slump...
⚡️ Get outside
⚡️ Take deep breaths
⚡️ Smile at strangers
⚡️ Eat nourishing foods
⚡️ Phone a friend
⚡️ Pick flowers
⚡️ Journal thoughts
⚡️ Meditate
⚡️ Read a book
⚡️ Learn to knit
⚡️ Paint a picture
⚡️ Build a fort
⚡️ Laugh
⚡️ Sing
⚡️ Dance

& then write down three things you’re grateful for at the end of the day✨ There’s a hell of a lot of good in this world & sometimes it’s shrouded by darkness. Try & focus on the good when times get tough ❤️

How’s that working from home/furloughed routine going for you?
Sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation, or start your day right when there’s no train to catch, or gym class to get get to.
Here’s a little morning checklist of things I find help keep me on track at home:

✅ Get up early & don’t snooze your alarm
✅ Get hydrated, water before coffee
✅ Get active..even just a 20 minute walk
✅ Cold shower (Wim Hoff styles)
✅ Limit the processed carbs first thing, trade your cereals for yoghurt or Avos
✅ More hydration
✅ Write a list of *achievable* tasks for the day & cross them off as you go.

We got an Abs & Ass combo coming your way first thing tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled! 👀

Here’s a quick & simple ABS & ARMS workout you can do anywhere. This one is particularly good for targeting your lower abs. I made the most of the sunshine today & took my workout to the park, but you can easily do this workout in the house too!
5 x REPS of the below:

12 x Monkey Bar Crunches
12 x Pike Push Ups
20 x Heel Taps
20 x Split Leg Switch
12 x Raised Leg Push Ups
