🍂 AUTUMN & WINTER ON THE MIGHTY RIVER DART 🛶🌊
As autumn and winter approach, ABC Kayaking is getting ready for another season of progressive coaching on some of the best white water the South West has to offer.
And there’s nowhere quite like the River Dart.
The Mighty Dart will feature THREE guides in the new UK Rivers Guidebook, written by the one and only Joe Ray Dickins. It shows how much water levels really change this river — from a training ground into a world-class paddling dream.
For us, the Dart is one of the best training grounds in the UK.
From developing personal paddling skills to leadership, decision-making, safety and rescue, the Dart offers opportunities for paddlers at every level. As the river progresses downstream from Dartmeet, the adventure builds — more features, different lines and endless opportunities to try something new.
You could paddle the Upper Dart 10,000 times and still find something new to learn.

And the progression doesn’t have to stop on the Dart.
Train on the Upper Dart, develop the skills, confidence and judgement, then put them into practice on some of the South West’s classic steep creeks — including the mighty East Lyn on Exmoor.
The East Lyn is a step up in commitment and a fantastic place to use the skills developed on the Dart. Reading water, choosing lines, managing your speed, boofing, scouting, setting safety and making good decisions all become increasingly important as the rivers get steeper and more committing.
Build the skills on the Upper Dart. Use them to descend the East Lyn.
And it’s not just about the white water.
The Dart Valley is an incredible environment — surrounded by open moorland, woodland and remote landscapes that make every day on the river an adventure.
Knowing how to paddle the river is only part of the picture. Understanding escape routes, making good decisions, recovering equipment and dealing with an injured paddler are all essential skills.
We know the Dart Valley inside and out, and we want to share that knowledge with you.
