This afternoon some of the school groups have been involved in Mill on the Brue’s Survival Game, created over 30 years ago. It involves having to trade with other groups, lighting a fire and building a shelter but it’s always more than that. Taking a moment to listen to an idea from another person, maybe learning a knot or enjoying the immediate surroundings of the camp and having fun!

Our latest high tech weather station has been installed on the outside of the team House Keeping HQ. It seems that no matter the weather, Shackleton our cat always adapts and ultimately benefits from the ever changing environment with ease, including happily watching all the children file into the Longhouse for lunch whilst sitting on some coats!

The well known quote ‘We didn’t realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun’. Is often attributed to A A Milne. Either way, it’s a lovely quote and so relevant to our residential summer camps that start in less than 5 weeks time. Wow! We’re really looking forward to seeing so many returning children and welcoming first time campers.

We are back from our Scottish Highland adventures. It got me thinking that this may seem like it had nothing to do with life at Mill on the Brue. However I believe that like the children staying I need to occasionally to step out my comfort zone. Getting to the top of the various mountains felt even better because I had to at times physically work hard and make sure all my previous mountain experience and training was used to keep us safe. Learning to enjoy being in the outdoors whatever the weather comes with support and the right learning environment. We feel proud of creating this environment for 1000’s of children and young people throughout the past 44 years.
