This weekend marked the ninth year of our annual summer football tournament - an event enjoyed by around 400 local children who are members of the football club, as well as many more visiting players from around the region.
Each year we aim to improve the event, and weโve been able to do that by listening to feedback and learning from previous years and this year is no exception.
We understand that the main concern raised has been around parking. We want to reassure everyone that this is something we take seriously, and we made a number of efforts to manage it as best as possible. This included providing free parking at The Burrs (at a cost to the club), putting up clear signage, communicating guidance to all participating teams in advance, making contact with local residents, sharing information on social media, and having a large team of volunteers on hand to help marshal and direct parking throughout the weekend.
However, we do not have the authority to control parking on surrounding streets. While our volunteers worked hard to guide drivers, if individuals choose to ignore instructions and park irresponsibly, there is unfortunately little we can do to enforce this.
We will be speaking with Councillor Meredith and the local council to explore what additional support or measures may be possible in future.
We would also welcome further support from the local community to help make the event as successful for the football club, enjoyable for all visitors and stress free for residents.
