So, for my birthday weekend, I had a very specific plan in mind...

I wanted to head back to a place where I spent many fantastic summers growing up and have a swim in the outdoor pool where I first learned to swim.

A nice, relaxing weekend. No rushing around. No cycling events. No van. Just a bit of nostalgia and some comfort.

Mr B, however, had other ideas.
"There's some great cycling tracks down there," he said.

I explained that after weeks of cycling events, I fancied something a little more laid back. We could take the car instead of the van and just enjoy the weekend.

Then I made what I thought was a very safe statement:

"If you can get both gravel bikes in the car with all the luggage, we can take them."

I was expecting that to be the end of the conversation.

But my husband has never been one to walk away from a challenge.

A few hours later, he'd disappeared into the garage and emerged having fashioned his own bike-mounting system using brackets attached to the headrests of the car seats. Apparently, this was now a perfectly sensible solution.

Cut to shortly afterwards, and somehow two adult gravel bikes, all our luggage, and everything else we need had been successfully squeezed into the car.

So, it turns out we're going cycling for my birthday weekend... with a bit of swimming thrown in for good measure! 😂🚴‍♀️🏊‍♀️
Anyone else have a partner who treats every logistical problem as a personal challenge?

It's the weekend 💃 (for me anyway 😜)!

And if these legends are anything to go by, age really is just a number! ❤️

No complicated workouts, no chasing perfection... just movement, laughter and a reminder that exercise should be enjoyable.

These guys prove that staying active doesn't have to mean burpees and beast mode.

Sometimes it means turning up, getting a bit of a workout, having a wee dance, sharing a laugh and leaving feeling better than when you arrived.

Now it's over to you...

What have you got planned this weekend? Any adventures, family time, races, walks, gardening, cycling... or maybe just a well-earned rest?

Tell me below 👇 and let's dance our way into the weekend! 💃🕺✨

Apparently Melanie left herself logged into the computer, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to wish her a very Happy Birthday! 😂 🎂🎉

For someone who spends most of her time looking after everyone else, encouraging people, keeping them moving and generally making sure nobody gets away with skipping their exercises, today it's your turn to be celebrated.

I'd tell you to take the day off, but we all know that's not going to happen.

Have a fantastic birthday. Thank you for everything you do for so many people and for putting up with me too.

Happy Birthday Mel ❤️

Today’s adventure took us up Fyrish to see the monument that featured in Traitors UK.

It’s one of those walks that reminds you just how lucky we are to have places like this right on our doorstep. The climb definitely gets the heart rate up, but the views at the top make it well worth the effort. And of course, it was pretty cool to stand beside a landmark that so many people will recognise.

Fresh air, a bit of exercise, and some stunning Highland scenery — not a bad way to spend a day.

What’s everyone else up to this weekend? Any walks, races, family adventures, or are you just enjoying a well-earned rest? Let me know below 👇

Guess where we are? The views at the top will be worth betraying your best friend for 😉

Menopause hydration isn’t just about “drinking more water.”💧

Hydration can affect:
⚡ Energy
🧠 Brain fog
😴 Sleep
💪 Recovery
🔥 Hot flushes
🦴 Joint stiffness
🏋️ Exercise performance

Yet so many women spend their day running on caffeine, forgetting to drink properly, then wondering why they feel exhausted, headachey and flat by mid afternoon.

In this week’s menopause group we talked about:
✔️ How hormones can affect fluid balance
✔️ Signs you may actually be dehydrated
✔️ Why electrolytes matter
✔️ Common hydration myths
✔️ How much we really need to drink
✔️ Why more water is not always the answer

Some of the biggest myths we discussed:
❌ “Everyone needs 2 litres a day”
❌ “Tea and coffee dehydrate you”
❌ “Clear urine means perfect hydration”
❌ “Electrolytes are only for athletes”

The reality is hydration is far more individual than social media would have us believe.

We also spoke about the benefits of getting hydration right:
✨ Better energy
✨ Improved concentration
✨ Fewer headaches
✨ Better exercise recovery
✨ Improved temperature regulation
✨ Reduced dizziness and fatigue
✨ Better overall wellbeing

One thing I always say: Hydration needs are individual. There is no magic number that suits everyone.

The biggest takeaway?
Small consistent habits usually work far better than extremes.

Drink regularly.
Fuel properly.
Replace fluids after exercise.
And pay attention to how your body actually feels.

Because sometimes what we think is “just menopause” is actually exhaustion, under-fuelling or dehydration layered on top.

These hydration rules rules are relevant to everyone, men and women. Midlife health isn’t about perfection. It’s about supporting your body better ❤️

Drop a 🫗 in the comments if you know you don't drink enough (you know who you are 😂)

Medal Monday 🏅

What a weekend for Team Training Room (I hope I haven't missed anyone) 👏

Carene took on the local Three Peaks challenge and absolutely smashed it ⛰️💪 As did Terri and Racheal, a seriously tough event with plenty of climbing, challenging terrain and a lot of mental grit required too. Huge achievement and very well deserved medal!

Karen (with trusty sidekick Sky 🐶) not only completed the Three Peaks on Saturday, but then only went and tackled the Berriedale 10k on Sunday too! That’s some effort over one weekend and a brilliant example of what consistency and determination can do.

Alex also took on the Berriedale 10k and put in a fantastic effort (no photo though 🤷😉) 👏

Meanwhile myself and Mr B were a little more sensible and took on the Berriedale 5k walk — although the hills still made sure we knew about it 😂

Two brilliant local events from start to finish. Really well organised, great atmosphere, lots of support out on the routes and, against all odds, the sun even decided to shine ☀️

Always lovely seeing so many local people out challenging themselves, supporting each other and getting involved. These events aren’t just about times or medals — they’re about doing something hard, stepping outside your comfort zone and proving to yourself what you’re capable of.

Very proud of everyone this weekend 👏🏅

It comes up again and again in The Training Room so here's another run down of the benefits of creatine for women.

Women are often told creatine is “just for bodybuilders” or that it will make them bulky… but the research tells a very different story 👇

Creatine is one of the most researched supplements available and can be incredibly beneficial for women — especially during peri and post menopause.

A small daily dose (around 3–5g) may help support:
💪 Muscle strength and recovery
🦴 Bone health
🧠 Brain function and mental clarity
😊 Mood and energy
🏃‍♀️ Exercise performance and recovery

And no… it doesn’t magically make you huge overnight 😉

What it can do is help women hold onto strength, muscle and function as hormones change with age.

Many women struggle with:
➡️ feeling weaker
➡️ slower recovery
➡️ reduced energy
➡️ losing muscle despite exercising
…and creatine may help support all of those things alongside good nutrition and strength training.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that supplements are only for elite athletes. In reality, something as simple as creatine could help everyday women feel stronger, healthier and more capable in daily life.

As always — supplements are exactly that… a supplement. The foundations still matter most:
🥩 Enough protein
🚶‍♀️ Regular movement
🏋️‍♀️ Strength training
😴 Sleep and recovery

But creatine is one of the few supplements with a really solid body of evidence behind it 👌
