On Saturday 9th May, Bromyard 1sts took on Newport Salop 2nds in the North Midlands Cup Plate Final, held at Worcester RFC.

The boys prep before game had been sharp, but they knew they were in for a tough game having previously played Newport Salop’s 2s last season.

The game started off very physical from each side, but it was Newport who crossed the line first before the Bromyard lads came back into the game. With quite similar playing styles, the score stayed tight with the half time score tied at 14-14.

The start of the second half went well for Bromyard with another score and a penalty to open up a 14-24 lead. This looked to be opened more again with a lie out maul being driven over the line, only to be ruled out by the officials as they hadn’t seen a grounding. This seemed to spur Newport into action again and they stated breaking the defence of Bromyard again and flooding through to score two more tries out wide. With conversions missed, this left the final score at 24-24.

While both teams set to carry on to extra time, the officials checked the rules which unfortunately listed a draw as being decided by most tries scored, making Newport Salop victors for 4-3 tries scored.

This was the final game of the season for BRFC and a final play for one long serving team member, James β€˜Fish’ Mitchell who has been a fantastic addition both on and off the pitch. A massive thankyou to James for all of his time his commitment to the club! πŸ’š

This ends the season for Bromyard seniors and with the 2nds winning their league, 1sts finishing 6th in their league after promotion and runners up in the Cup Plate final, things are looking strong for the club. Next season the 2nds have been accepted to move into the RFU league structure which is a massive boost for the club and 2nd team.

Saturday 25th April 2026

Saturday saw Bromyard 1sts play their last league fixture, away against a resurgent Ledbury side who had found a lot of form through the second half of the season.

From the start of the match, both forward packs exchanged a lot of physical carries but Ledbury began to get the upper hand especially with the kicking game, using the downhill slope to good effect. This gave them the foothold to launch repeated, well rehearsed and executed set plays and they found gaps in the Bromyard defence. Despite strong spells of pressure and territory against the slope, Bromyard failed to put any points on the board in the first half with Ledbury taking a strong lead.

The second half saw Bromyard with more attacking opportunities than the first, but the Ledbury defence held strong. Thomas β€œTJ” Tedstone did manage to cross the whitewash for one try following a spell of tight carries, with Bobby Ralph adding the conversion. This was, however, the only scores for Bromyard.

The final score was a very disappointing 36-7 loss but the better side definitely won on the day.

Man of the match went to Tom Wall for his continued work and improvement at prop against a very strong Ledbury pack.

The result sees Bromyard finish a fantastic 6th in Counties 1 West (South), cementing their place at the highest standard the club has played. Huge thanks to players, supporters, sponsors, the BRFC committee, Steph and the bar/kitchen staff, Steve and Cath for first aid, Mick Eversham for his tireless pitch maintenance, Hugh for his photos and Kat Ainge for being the master behind our social media πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Bromyard 2s vs Worcester 2s πŸ‰

Bromyard 2s wrapped up their season with a narrow 20–22 defeat in an evenly contested end-of-season friendly against Worcester 2s.

Both sides showed real physicality throughout, with strong carries from each team making it a competitive and entertaining encounter. The Bromyard pack impressed at scrum time, putting in a dominant performance and providing a solid platform across the game.

Despite the close scoreline, Worcester edged it in the final moments, but Bromyard can take plenty of positives from a strong all-round performance.

Man of the Match goes to Rhys Cooper for an outstanding defensive effort, stepping up to cover multiple positions due to injuries and showing real commitment throughout.

A positive way to round off the season for Bromyard 2s, who finish sitting top of the Merit 1 table β€” a fantastic achievement to cap off a great campaign.

On Saturday Bromyard 1sts hosted top of the league and unbeaten Worcester RFC.

A fired up Bromyard side started with a lot of energy and keeping good possession and territory which put a lot of pressure on the visitors, earning an early penalty converted by Bobby Ralph.

Worcester hit back quickly with a score before Bromyard again, added some pressure, resulting in a 5m lineout, driven over with strong work by the pack and scored by captain, Sam Dudley.

Worcester came back again and again and as expected, kept adding to their score. Bromyard fronted up time and time again and gave one of their best performances of the season.

Further tries came with a brace from scrum half Tom Watkins and a well deserved score for John Pudge. The try scorers did well to finish but they all came as a result of strong continual pressure across the whole pitch from the Bromyard lads. All 18 played with passion and pride and nobody, on or off the pitch, came away disappointed by the result, despite losing 27-52.

Man of the match was centre, Euan Mould. Recently back from his 24th holiday of the year, he got straight back to work and put in a great performance in attack and defence.

Next week, we finish the league away to Ledbury, hoping to do the double over the local rivals.

The team would like to thank all the support shown Saturday and hope for the same on the road next week.

Bromyard 2s brought their 2025–2026 league campaign to a close with a hard-fought victory over Bournville 3s, 12-45, in challenging conditions, in what proved to be a game of two distinct halves.

Despite the questionable weather, it was Bournville who came out of the blocks the sharper side, controlling much of the opening 60 minutes. Their structure and tempo kept Bromyard under pressure, forcing Bromyard to dig deep defensively and work hard to stay within touching distance.

However, as the match entered its final quarter, Bromyard found another gear. Shifting momentum decisively, they began to play with renewed confidence and intent.

A dominant scrum remained a constant theme throughout the contest and season, ultimately proving decisive. Bromyard’s pack exerted sustained pressure, earning a penalty try and forcing several crucial turnover balls that swung the game firmly in their favour.

πŸ”₯ Man of the Match πŸ”₯
TJ in the centres, whose powerful running and eye for a gap caused Bournville no end of problems. His standout performance, featuring multiple line breaks and tries, earned him Man of the Match honours.
The tries also take his remarkable tally to 38 for the 2025–26 season across both teams, underlining an exceptional year for him.

With the league season now concluded, Bromyard 2s turn their attention to one final fixtureβ€”a friendly against Worcester 2s on the 18thβ€”before wrapping up the campaign.

β€œOn Saturday, Bromyard 1sts travelled away to Old Leamingtonians RFC.

The start of the game saw a fired up home side, bolstered by their crowd who were in good voice following their tables day. The Bromyard lads, with the journey still in them, weren’t quite firing and let an early try in.

After weathering more attack, the Bromyard side began firing some shots of their own. Strong carries from the forwards narrowed the defence and space began opening out wide allowing Bromyard to find gaps to the try line and stretch out a lead for half time.

The start of the second half followed the same pattern with Bromyard in control, until Old Lems managed to lift themselves again and start mounting attacks of their own. Scoring with 15 minutes to go and reigniting their crowd to add some more momentum, another score followed. With five minutes to go, Bromyard held onto a narrow 24-29 lead.

Following a very extended advantage period of attack, the home side went again but the defence held strong. Bromyard managed a turn over which was safely carried and taken to ground, lessons learnt from the England game, before being kicked out to finish the game.

Man of the match was Jamie Evans, a strong game alongside a very tough 80 minutes propping against a very strong pack.”
