PLEASE SHARE - Unfortunately a friend has reported bike thefts this evening. The following two bikes were stolen from Lickey last night along with a chainsaw:

Bike 1 - Specialized Tricross Single Speed about 20 and a bit different

Bike 2 - Cube Agree Pro matte black with bright green Cube logo on Hunt wheels.

If you see these stolen bikes being advertised anywhere please let us know ASAP and we will pass on the information to the rightful owner.

Hoping to get a photo or two to help people recognise the bikes.

*** Riders of Bromsgrove - I have news!!! ***

Six months after making the difficult decision to close Academy Bikeworks, I have now set myself up in a new workshop. I've decided to go solo following incredible ongoing support from so many customers of Academy Bikeworks.

Operating as a 'mobile mechanic' on a part time basis for the time being, I'll now be offering a collection/drop off/delivery service. The workshop is not open to the public, and service bookings are strictly by appointment only.

To book your bike in, simply email me on:

[email protected]

Over the coming weeks and months I'll be getting a new website and improving the ways you can reach me to make a service booking.

Spread the word and get in touch if your bike needs some TLC :)

*CLOSING DOWN*

Owen and I have made the difficult decision to close the business and cease trading. Our last trading day will be Wednesday 7th September.

This is for a number of reasons, but predominantly the ongoing supply chain issues (an issue that has affected our industry since June 2020) coupled with the ever worsening economic landscape, has ultimately made it untenable for the business to continue trading. The lease on our unit was due to end December this year, with rent rises forecast and parking charges on the site being introduced.

Continuing to run the business has had some considerable impact on our own personal living circumstances. We moved in with family last year in an effort to minimise what we draw from the business as salary, but this living situation isn't sustainable long term and in truth is having a negative impact on home life.

This decision has not been made lightly, we have worked incredibly hard and have no doubt that the business would have been a resounding success if not for these these external and 'outside of our control' factors. But we have to face the facts that the situation is unlikely to improve any time soon, and that continuing the business would only put us under more stress and strain.

We want to thank every single person that has supported us. Next week would have marked 4 years since opening our business, and during that time we have met a phenomenal number of truly awesome people; and we hope to stay in touch with as many of you as possible.

We will be contacting customers with existing work orders to minimise disruption. We are uncertain what the future holds, but we will of course post updates as we know more; but equally ask that you respect our need for space and time to process this decision.

Thank you again for all of your support - Hannah and Owen

If anyone knows a Gill Evans that has dropped a bike into our workshop, can you please ask them to contact us/pop by to the workshop, as regrettably the telephone number she provided is incorrect.

Please be aware that we are currently not taking on any new work orders at this moment in time.

Here's another bike up for sale - a 50cm 2019 Trek Domane SL5 disc brake bike - equipped with 105 drivetrain and with very limited mileage!

A steal at £1500!

A good customer of ours, Bernie, is looking to sell her Trek Domane SL5. It’s had very little mileage but it has acquired some cosmetic scuffs and scrapes in transit (see the smaller photos for details of damage.) Despite the appearance, the bike is in very good working order. A new chain would be

We've got a couple of bikes going up on the website this weekend so keep an eye out!

A very good customer of ours, Guy H, is looking to sell his Echelon carbon winter bike. As a keen racer, Guy has always prided himself on having quality frames fitted with quality components irrespective of their purpose - whether it’s a racing bike, training, bike, distance bike or winter bike - ...

We are closing early today as Owen had to see an emergency GP yesterday due to unusual swelling in his foot.

He is now being treated with antibiotics and painkillers for a bacterial infection. The swelling coupled with the warm weather is making Owen understandably uncomfortable working on his feet, so we're closing early to get him home, rested and his foot elevated and on ice.

All being well we will be back on Tuesday.

Please think VERY carefully before going out on the bike Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

The hot weather will likely cause road surfaces to melt. Local councils are instructing gritters to go out and dust roads with a surface topper, but this coupled with melted bitumen could cause no end of punctures and tyre damage.

A tyre exploding can cause catastrophic damage to the rim, and if it occurs during a ride could cause an accident. Furthermore, tyres are very difficult to acquire at the moment - especially road tubeless tyres! Best to avoid coated melting roads!

You may also need to think about how and where your bike is stored at home. If your bike is in a hot room (like a conservatory or shed) be sure to deflate the pressures to about halfway to allow for expansion caused by heat. Equally, try to avoid your bike being in prolonged direct sunlight.

If you do go out on your bike, avoid the hottest periods, keep the route short with plenty of stops and take plenty of drink out (loaded with electrolytes to replace essential minerals lost in sweat).

Road surfaces - although very resilient - can melt when the air temperature gets above 30°C
