Something that's hurting your gym progress...

The need jump to rush progress.

We've seen it time and time again over our time in coaching fitness.

You join the gym.
Start to see a little progress.
See others doing some different movements.
You decide to give it a go.
6 months later....your progress has stalled.

The pictures below all show some sort of squat movements.

Even though the movement is a squat, the different variations all have different demands and challenges.

The beautiful thing about our small 8 person coached sessions, we know what variation of a given movement will be best for you.

You know every time you workout, you'll be getting an effective workout for your current fitness level.

Don't rush your progress. Get as strong and as efficient as possible in a given movement, then progress.

If you need a helping hand or guidance, that's what we're here for ⬇⬇⬇

💥 250 Sessions for Leigh! 💥

Leigh, a busy manager, husband, and dad, that’s chosen to make time for his health and wellbeing, despite everything else life throws his way.

When Leigh first came to Gusto, it actually wasn’t the right time for him. He came in around a year before joining and decided to wait.

Then, in January 2024, the timing was right.

Leigh joined wanting one thing above all else: structure and routine. He wanted to get fitter, enjoy his training, and be part of a community that would help him stay consistent.

Since joining, Leigh’s:

✅ Completed 250 Gusto sessions
✅ Improved his strength, fitness, and overall movement
✅ Built a routine that fits around work and family life
✅ Become a fantastic part of the Gusto community
✅ Thrown himself into our social events, often bringing his wife and young son along too

One of the things we love most about Leigh’s story is that he reminds us you don’t have to start the first time you enquire. Sometimes life gets in the way, and that’s okay. What matters is recognising when the time is right and then committing to yourself.

As a busy manager, husband and dad, Leigh has shown that you don’t need more time. Having the right routine and people around you to help you stay consistent is the key.

❤️ 24 Hours Charity Row Completed ❤️

What a 24 hours!

From Friday 5pm to Saturday 5pm, the Gusto community came together to support an incredible cause and achieve something pretty special.

Our goal was to keep one rower moving continuously for 24 hours while raising money and awareness in support of the FTD Brothers and dementia awareness.

Not only did we complete the challenge...

🚣 We rowed 306,892 metres, beating our target of 300,000 metres
💰 We've raised approximately £1,500 so far.

The real achievement was seeing people give up their Friday evening, Saturday plans, sleep, comfort and time to support something bigger than themselves.

Some people rowed during the day.
Some rowed through the night.
Some brought food and drinks.
Some came down simply to cheer others on.

Every single person played a part.

At Gusto, we've always believed fitness can be used for more than just improving ourselves. It can bring people together, support meaningful causes and make a positive impact in our community.

This weekend was a brilliant example of that.

A huge thank you to everyone who rowed, donated, shared our posts, brought supplies, and supported us throughout the challenge.

And of course, thank you to the FTD Brothers for the awareness they continue to raise and for inspiring us to take on this challenge in the first place.

You can still donate to our challenge here:

We're incredibly proud of what this community achieved ❤️

Happy Father's Days to all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures in our community! 🧡

Thank you for everything you do, often bending the scenes, to support, guide and inspire those around you.

We hope you have a fantastic day.

Here's to being strong, healthy and capable for the people who matter most.

Happy Fathers Day from everyone at Gusto 💪

When’s the Best Time to Stretch? 🤔

A question that came up with a couple of members recently.

Not all stretching is created equal.

✅ Before training: Dynamic stretches (moving through a range of motion) such as leg swings, lunges and arm circles.

✅ After training: Static stretches (holding a position) such as hamstring, quad and calf stretches.

Why? Dynamic stretching helps prepare your body for exercise, while static stretching is better for improving flexibility and helping you unwind after training.

Simple rule:
👉 Dynamic stretches = before training
👉 Static stretches = after training or throughout the day

Save the long holds for later and keep your warm up moving.

💥 100 Sessions for Debbie! 💥

100 sessions alongside balancing family life, nan duties, hobbies, and everything else life brings.

When Debbie first came to try Gusto in July 2025, it was on the recommendation of her son Ollie and his partner Sophia. Already active through running, Pilates, and road cycling, Debbie was looking for a new challenge and a way to keep building strength for the years ahead.

Since then:
✅ Completed 100 Gusto sessions training 3 times per week
✅ Built strength and confidence through resistance training
✅ Continued enjoying road cycling and staying active outside the gym
✅ Maintained the energy and fitness needed for her important nan duties
✅ Become known for working incredibly hard every single session

If you’ve trained alongside Debbie, you’ll know she never does things by halves. She turns up, gets stuck in, and gives every session her full effort.

Debbie’s fitness journey is a reminder about being strong enough to enjoy the things you love, whether that’s cycling, travelling, playing with grandchildren, or simply making the most of everyday life.

How many days per week should you train? 🤔

From our experience, most people need less than they think.

Training isn’t about seeing how much exercise you can cram into a week.
Training is about creating enough stimulus for your body to adapt, then giving it the opportunity to recover and come back stronger, fitter and healthier.

At Gusto, most members train between 2-4 times per week.

In fact, some of our most consistent members over the last few years train just 3–4 times per week.

Let’s compare the two.

🏃‍♂️ Training 6 times per week:
✔️ Higher training volume
✔️ More physical and mental stress
✔️ Greater recovery demands
✔️ Better nutrition and sleep required to support it
✔️ Less room for life’s other commitments

💪 Training 3–4 times per week:
✅ More than enough stimulus for most adults
✅ Easier to recover from
✅ More energy for work, family and hobbies
✅ Greater consistency over months and years
✅ Still delivers excellent results

In reality, there isn’t a “best” training plan. The best one is one you enjoy and can do consistently.

Most people don’t need more workouts.

They need a realistic routine that fits their life.

That’s exactly why we focus on helping adults build sustainable habits that improve their strength, fitness, energy and confidence without living in the gym.

How many times per week do you currently train?
