During yesterday’s workshop we explored the theme of what happens when we are moving in two directions.

Can we expand outwards, but still maintain a connection to our centre?

Physically, can we allow our toes and fingers to lengthen away from us, while our thighs and arm bones draw back towards our hips and shoulders?
Can we allow the spine to gently lengthen in two directions?

Like an elastic band, the quality of movement isn’t created at one end on its own. It’s the relationship between the two that makes it work.

Life is very good at pulling us away in all sorts of directions: reaching out towards people we care about, jobs that need doing, the responsibilities and demands of a busy life.

Perhaps, to help those demands feel more manageable, and to keep being able to give, we don’t need to stop reaching out, but we might need to keep something quietly connected back to ourselves.

A little about me, and why I teach the way I do.

I’ve had a few new followers recently, and with the autumn term beginning, I thought I’d say a little about me, my practice, and why sharing it with others means so much to me.
I first stumbled into yoga around twelve years ago, a few weeks after finishing active treatment for breast cancer.

I’d been a gymnast, and movement had always been familiar to me. But treatment changed much more than my strength and mobility. My body had become a place of fear and uncertainty. I felt separate from it, constantly monitoring, anticipating and trying to keep myself safe.

I didn’t just want to regain movement. I wanted to feel comfortable inhabiting my body again.

I first found yoga through Sally Wall’s My Yoga Mind classes. Through thoughtful movement, quietness and space, I began to discover that meeting myself with kindness, rather than forcing and expecting, could lead to a different way of moving and being.

That first class became a regular date, and gradually yoga became something that extended beyond the hour I spent on my mat.

A few years later, I trained with Catherine Annis at Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training in 2021. I was later invited back as an assistant teacher, an experience I absolutely loved.

My own practice and learning continue to evolve. I see yoga as a lifelong exploration, rather than something I’ll ever finish learning.

Twelve years on, my body is still changing, as bodies do. I’m navigating many of the changes that come with being a woman in my late forties, and I’m increasingly interested in how practice can meet us through those changes, rather than asking us to keep up with who we used to be.

That’s what I hope to offer in my classes.

You don’t need to arrive feeling calm, flexible or particularly good at yoga. We begin with where you are, exploring movement, breath and rest in ways that feel appropriate for you. If you looked around the room, you’d probably see everyone doing something slightly different. We have fun, and there’s no need to get into the perfect shape.

I’m interested in how practice can help us recognise our responses to stress and discover ways of finding a little more steadiness when life feels demanding. Not by making difficult feelings disappear, but by becoming more familiar with ourselves.

Perhaps that’s why I value the little window a regular class can offer. Somewhere to return to yourself, as you are.

If you’re new here, welcome. Whether you’re completely new to yoga, returning after a break, or looking for a different approach, I’d be very happy to help you find a place to begin.

Our autumn term begins this week, with classes in Burcot, Blackwell and Becketts Farm.

A little space to come home to yourself 🍁

Life has a way of pulling us in all sorts of directions. Work, family, responsibilities, the endless lists that require our attention.

A regular yoga class can offer a little window in the week, time and space away from the noise. Room to catch your breath, rest and reconnect with yourself, without needing to achieve anything or reach any goals.

My classes are welcoming, adaptable for your needs and rooted in curiosity, rather than twisting the body into a “perfect” shape. We explore how movement can feel more comfortable and connected, with space to find your own way.

Whether you are completely new to yoga, returning after a break or are perhaps looking for a different way to approach your practice, you’re very welcome.

🍁AUTUMN CLASSES

Small groups, with space for individual attention.

If you’d like to find out which class might suit you, send me a message. I’d love to help you find a place to begin.

A little window in the week 🍂

September has a way of bringing its own particular busyness. The return to routines, the things we’ve put off over the summer, and all the usual demands of work, family and everyday life.

Perhaps that’s one of the things a regular yoga class can offer. Not another thing to achieve, or another demand on our time, but a familiar little window in the week. Somewhere to step away from the noise for a while, catch your breath, move, rest, and simply be where you are.

A ritual to look forward to, perhaps. And a little space to carry back into the rest of the week.

Our autumn term begins this week, and I’m looking forward to welcoming familiar, returning and new faces.

Life is remarkably good at pulling us off centre.

Take some space and time to allow your body to find its own way back into balance.

My yoga classes offer an opportunity to slow down, pay attention and explore movement in a way that works with your body, rather than asking it to perform.

There’s no need to be flexible, experienced or particularly “good at yoga”. Just come as you are.

You might notice that you breathe a little more easily. That your body feels more comfortable. That your mind has a little more space.

And perhaps you leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Autumn classes begin on Thursday 10 September, with weekly classes and longer sessions in and around Bromsgrove.

The next Sunday workshop is on 13 September, 10am–12pm at Burcot Village Hall. Spaces are £18.

Take a look through the photographs for the full timetable. To book your space—or to ask which class might suit you—send me a message or call 07799 148249.
