And that as they say is a wrap for the 2026 spring season!
A tad behind on write ups... organising an inordinate numbers of teams over the last few weeks left little time for much else...except baking of course...cake is mandatory !
The last two dates on the calendar were all things welsh! Firstly a return to the Wynnstay for their second year running in the beautiful north saw 11 BR teams out and 2 rascals entered in the hunt scurry. Organising teams for this TC proved that the British Team Chasing family do their damdest to get rides sorted as team bosses worked together finding places with other teams as needed, at one point it was looking like we needed a team named 'stunnin' rascals on a rideaway fox'.... team work taken to a new level!!!
Anyway...back to wynnstay! A glorious spring day where the sun shone couldn't have given us better weather again this year.
The novice rascals were first up and with all 4 teams completing an up to height course that gave them some questions to answer it was a reward for Cerys Jones the the BR R US team taking 3rd place this year improving from last year....gauntlet thrown down Cerys for 2027 😂 The Wynnstay team did a great job with the course this year and it was fantastic seeing that all of the teams in the novice class finished with no elimination, not something we often see...as the Intermediate course proved with neither speed teams getting round this year, but it never dampens our enthusiasm!
Final class of the day saw More BR, BR Run Again and BR Return take 5th 6th and 7th place.
This course really is something guys and next year it would be great to see entries up and give it the support and appreciation it deserves ..the trip is worth it for the hedges!!! Get it in your diaries!
And so onto the final spring TC. The Usk Valley putting on their first team chase in what can only be described as a stunning setting that without doubt has the most spectacular scenery surrounding the course. Clearly an awful lot of hard work has gone into this course and it was certainly well supported, I think we may see some new faces on the circuit after many riders experienced what team chasing has to offer for the first time. With hilly terrain, very up to height solids and some challenging questions of horse rider and teamwork it's a good job this was at the end of the season, fitness very much needed here!!
A plethora of welsh riders courtesy of Megan Jones and Tania Edwards saw 15 BR teams entered!! What should have been a sea of green though got well and truly scuppered by the failure of the courier to get the colours delivered in time. That said it did not dampen spirits or enthusiasm of the mini teams , 4 of which had the honour of being the first four consecutive teams to ride this new course. The BR Welsh minis saw a 4th place and a big shout out to Emma Jones stepping up to compete rather than being groom, well rewarded for sure! Cerys and BR R Us success continued with a 6th place finish , a nice reward for 12 year old Millie being in the team doing her very first team chase!
A nice touch with rosettes to 10th place meant a frillie for the BR Begin team after coming home 9th.
Thanks go to Bethan Tay for all her help with the minis and stepping in last minute to ride in the class multiple times as well.
An up to height novice course saw the BR Pups the best of the BR teams, with the Even More and the Kick On teams also completing this new course. Rider feedback yet to come in but the general consenus was a good but challenging course.
Inter speed teams were up next on a definite full up course, with both the Fox Off and Fed on Radiance Gold entered it was definitely not our week as both teams were eliminated. Autumn won't come soon enough for these rascals to be back at it tough I'm sure!
Final class of the day was the turn of the inter bogey teams, with 2 horses out one team amalgamated that morning with one of the pheasant pluckers as they too were down to a duo, the TC family at work once again to get those wanting a ride a spin round!
Our BR team withdrew after walking the course and as team collectively made the decision not running was the best decision left the BR Return team as the last team galloping....and boy they did!! Taking second place with just 6 seconds off the winning.teams time was a reward for a superb round and a great end to the day! (Particularly for Edward Collins after having spent all weekend on site and in the control box on sunday offering his help to the Usk Valley team)
A day well spent with many rascals new and old made possible by this new venue, we say Diloch!
Enjoy the summer and see you in the autumn Chasers...

Where to start Worcester Team Chase ... well I guess the beginning is the 15 ...yep 15 teams we had entered.... enough said on that admin challenge already!!!
Mid to lower division finishes for 6 of the 8 novice teams did not leave too many rascals without smiles on their faces as they tackled the course with unbridled enthusiasm! Especially so the first timers, proven when Hari in the BR R US team got a commentary special shout out for his magnificent save how did he stay that!!!!! Go big or go home Hari well done!!! Cerys Jones hope he's forgiven us....
We welcomed a good few new faces to the Rascals this week joining our regulars and hope to see more of them! But it wouldn't be right to not give a special mention to the very seasoned James Sheppard Equine Dental Practice taking the ride on Emma Tyler's super little mare; usually seen in the infamous green and white spots of team rideaway we knew he'd wear green well... proved he could be a rascal too up until missing out a fence...sorry James... couldn't resist!!! Mitigating circumstances ...not ridden the novice course in many a season so forgiven 😂
The big event of the day though, the open championship!! Hop idols time to shine.. Holly Pearson Taylor Kate Mills had Ellie Jefferson join them after her fab run in the Bicester open and the team was completed by Lily Chandler. After loosing Lily at the water the team kicked on and came home to take a well deserved 3rd place competing against the best of the best. So proud of our girls!
Intermediate classes followed over a very challenging track and speed teams were up first. Proof that in team chasing the ups and downs closely follow one another as the speed teams didn't have the best of days and all 3 teams were eliminated. Thankful that all horses and riders are okay and like Arnie says they'll be back.
Having endured rain earlier in the day the weather gods saved their best for last...dear god hail stones the size of golf balls.... I can only admire all of the riders caught up in that storm... a 4t and 5th place for the BR Return and the Even More BR teams respectively was a great end to the day!!
Half way through the spring season already...roll on the Wynnstay!!!

Freezing fast and furious at Fernie was the theme of the day !
With many many changes through the week, mostly due to dreaded abscesses I held my breath that I had the right people in the right teams and enough of them at that! seemed we'd cracked it! But to then have it topped off with the clocks going forward could I be sure of everyone turning up on time? All I can say is thank goodness for chat groups to remind people!!!(they all did)

Courses were reported as lovely with good ground and fair tests across the levels its fair to say the novice course did not prove a favourable one for the Rascals this week; not one of the teams managed to complete a round with more than a duo crossing the finish line. A rather dramatic and incredibly scary final fence not being cleared left us all somewhat apprehensive witnessing a horrible fall for Abbie but are pleased to report the emerald green must have bought us some luck as she was very fortunate to not have incurred any serious injury. With some stoppers some fallers and even a non starter for the novice crew it definitely was not our day.
We moved on to the open and saw the welcome return of Holly to the Hop Idols, joining Kate Freya and Sally. Watching them from probably the best viewing vantage point of all the courses on the circuit they were sailing across the course with ease in a fab four formation and hopping into the pen before we knew it. Now halfway, and hopeful of more of the same for the remainder of the course disaster struck as the tricky Trakehner took out Ted! But hey, its 3 to finish right? Well the Water jump saw to that not happening as Freya and Barney took a dunking of a mammoth nature! Gymnastic aquaequitation anyone?? hmmmm.... a new sport in the making especially seeing as a few other teams had some epic tryouts for it too!! Holly and Kate carried on their way and both came home unscathed.
By now the freezing rain was biting to the bone! it was raw! However with 3 Inter teams to run there was no early bath for anyone else!
First up saw Tabs leading the Beaglin' Rascals Kick On once again on such a super little mare with indeed the heart of lion (but watching the headcam footage a few hupps would suggest there's some Lea influence creeping in too!!) Great to have Lily back out and Piko showed that a winter of hunting certainly proves the point that it is definitely superb preparation for team chasing! Sadly at the 11th hour an acute lameness for Meg's boy would have left the team as a trio, but team chasing is a family and thankfully the Wishful's Simon Coady stepped in, albeit not for a run at his normal speed! Benny completely the line up, asking do I have to wear the colours....I've soooo many layers on if I take them off I'll be cold...even I couldn't be that cruel!
A solid ride saw the first Rascals team of the day complete a round with all 4 team members crossing the finish line of a well dressed and presented course that, whilst offering lots of questions actually rode beautifully.
Closely following on the Beaglin' Rascals fed on Radiance Gold consisted of a different line up this week with Charlotte leading the team of Amy Hayley and Meghan, & what a line up they were too! Fab team work and horses well suited to run together saw both riders and horses gain in confidence around the track, leaving them sitting in 3rd place for some time. They were hopeful of a frilly, however as 4 teams went quicker, a 7th place finish was still fantastic for them and we look forward to them being out in force again next week!
Finally, saving the best till last step up the Fox Offs.....no need for the dulcet tones of Tina shouting 'Go oonn Bethan' this week! They were literally flying round, looking very likely to take the lead until a mishap lost them valuable seconds, the commentator ensured the spectators got a giggle as he described their actions as' what could only be described as quite frankly a right c**k up!' A 8th place though with all 4 coming home they had all had a very enjoyable spin round this wonderful course, despite the weather and as well as being without Dashing Danny who is in need of a little break, it was great to see that Lucy and Hattie certainly stepped up to the plate!
Now if anyone wouldn't mind having a word with the weatherman for next year we wouldn't say no to a spring sunshine sortie please!

come along for the ride with upfront lead horse Zoe piloted by Tabs Smith as she tackled the Fernie Intermediate course in frrrrreezing conditions!
