⛳ AN INSPIRATION ON AND OFF THE GOLF COURSE

We’re incredibly proud of North Foreland member Ken Powell, whose story and achievements continue to show that golf really can be a game for everyone.

After being left paralysed from the waist down following a spinal stroke in 2021, Ken returned to golf using a specialist ParaMotion mobility device. Since returning to the course in 2022, he has worked his handicap down from 27 to an impressive 9.5.

Ken is now Kent Golf’s Disability Ambassador and a member of the England Golf Disability Squad, recently returning from Italy with two gold medals after England won both the European Nations’ Cup and, for the first time, the European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability.

And today Ken is at Wildernesse Golf Club in Sevenoaks, helping at a Paragolfer Taster Day alongside Kent Golf and The Golf Trust. The day gives people with disabilities the opportunity to try golf using specialist equipment, with Ken there to share his own experience, advice and encouragement.

It’s fantastic to see Ken using his own journey to help others discover — or rediscover — the game.

You don’t always need 18 full-length holes to get your golf fix.

Our 18-hole Northcliffe Par 3 Course is a great way to spend a couple of hours working on your scoring clubs, enjoying some competitive golf with friends or introducing somebody new to the game.

And don’t be fooled by the shorter holes — there are still plenty of opportunities to lose a few shots!

⛳ JOINT CAPTAINS’ DAY AT NORTH FORELAND

This morning we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Joint Captains’ Day at North Foreland, supporting two fantastic charities — Shooting Star Children’s Hospices and Dementia UK.

A huge thank you to Jaecoo and Premier Signs for generously sponsoring today’s event. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps make days like this possible.

Team Kent are the Southern Counties Senior Foursomes winners 🏆 🎉 🥳 👏

Kent Senior Men played their last game of the season in the Southern Counties Seniors Foursomes Final held at West Herts Golf Club.

The format is 4 Counties who had previously won their regional qualifier, with 5 pairs per team playing matchplay foursomes in the morning and afternoon against all 3 other counties (Sussex, Devon and Bedfordshire), with 10 points available per team.

After a very wet practice day and plenty of advice from our coach, Mark Trow, we thought we were all set, only for the playing Captain, Andy Francis, to be taken ill overnight and the travelling reserve Phil Judge had to step in.

The morning matches were all close, with the highlight being our first pair, Martin Farbrace and Mark Haffenden, being 4 down with 6 to play against a Sussex pair. They got back to all square playing the last par 5. Our pair were 15- 20 ft away for an eagle, and the Sussex pair 100 yards away in 2, they then held their third shot for an eagle, a shock to the system, but Mark stepped up and held his putt to gain a well-deserved half point.

Scores at lunch were:
Sussex 3½ points, Kent and Devon 2½ each and Bedfordshire 1½.

In the afternoon we came out hot, must have been the Lasagne for lunch. After 12 holes, we were 4up in 2 matches and 5 up in another, and two matches were very close. Phil Judge and Steve Robson came back from 2 down to win one up, and Martin and Mark again went to the last hole, this time 1 down, but managed to win it, with Mark this time holding a tricky 4 footer for the half point that confirmed us as the winners.

The final point scores were:
Kent 7
Sussex 6½
Devon 4
Beds 2½

All the pairs contributed points to this fabulous win, with Steve Gough/Jim Coventry and Russel Thwaites/Frank Adam winning both their games and Jason Morris and Ross Capeling recovering from a defeat in the morning to record a fantastic 5&4 win in the afternoon.

Congratulations to the team and the squad for producing a superb victory from a difficult season where we have had a number of our top players absent for all or most of the season for medical issues or work commitments.

💚⛳ THANK A GREENKEEPER DAY

Today we’d like to say a huge thank you to Simon and the entire greenkeeping team at North Foreland for everything they do to look after our courses.

This summer has been particularly challenging, with the prolonged dry weather and drought conditions putting enormous pressure on golf courses across the country.

Throughout it all, Simon and his team have worked tirelessly to manage the conditions, protect the course and present North Foreland to the very best standard possible.

Much of their work happens long before most of us arrive at the club, and their dedication, knowledge and hard work certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.
