To start the new season, Boss Controls Ltd of Horsham, have kindly sponsored the U18 Aztec girls with new netball dresses. The girls are delighted with their new kit which has given them a boost to the start of the Crawley League; winning 2 of their first 4 games prior to half term.

Some weeks ago now we celebrated the successes of the club and its members at Mannings Heath Golf Club. Big thanks again to Nick Scott for organising such a wonderful venue for our special evening.

We had so much to celebrate - the club has grown and now has over 65 members and 6 teams from U11s-U17s. We also have some U10s - Cora, Libby, Lyra and Tess who are working hard towards playing some games very soon.

U11s played their 1st competitive games at the Aztec Tournament in July and we were all delighted on how they played - exceeding our expectations.

U12s had a great season playing in the 5Ways Junior Development League with some great results.

U13s won their play off games against Cranleigh and Shoreham to win the coveted 5Ways League Trophy. All girls received their medals and trophy.

U14s had another great season coming a close 2nd in the SJNO league. They also did brilliantly in their 1st season in the county league producing some great results against strong opposition.

The U15/16s came a respectable 3rd in the SJNO league and our very own Ellie Marlow won player of the league.

Finally our u17s continued to play in the Crawley Wednesday League and won some great games against formidable teams - well done girls.

Well done to all the girls for making it such a great season.

Special mention to Coach Lisa who is sadly leaving us - she will be greatly missed.

Award Winners:

U11s - Lily Fabrega and Olivia Nel

U12s - Nita Nkansa, Poppy Woodruffe de
Bank, Clemence Way , Josie Alobaidi and Ellie Stewart

Sunday 11th May
Aztecs U12s vs Southdown
Aztecs WIN 17-12

The U12s worked so hard in their game and I can see so much improvement in their individual skills and together as a team.

The girls were up against a very capable Southdown team who had strong defence and attack but this did not daunt the girls at all.
Evelyn kept us in the game with her effortless goal scoring - cool as a cucumber.
Some fantastic interceptions throughout the game and the girls didn’t give up, working hard to win the ball and play to the final whistle.
Final score 17-12 to Aztec.

Sunday 11th May
Aztecs U13s vs Worthing
Aztecs WIN 16-10

Well Done today girls - you worked so hard to secure a win against Worthing. To be honest I was a little worried about the game today - we were down to 7 players and with no out and out GK plus it was hot!
But the girls did an old lady proud today. Anayah went into GK - a position she doesn’t normally play and she nailed it…. Why was I worried!! ?
She listened and marked her player like glue and got some great intercepts.
The girls started off strongly right from the start with some great mid court support and Ruby on fire at shooting.
At times we rushed our passing but on the whole we did some lovely attacking play from one end to the other.
The last quarter we kept our nerve to keep ahead to win 10-16.
All girls stepped up today - well done everyone.
Final Score: Aztecs 16 - Worthing 10

Sunday 27th April
Aztecs U16s Vs CD Phoenix
Aztecs WIN 26 -10

Again the U16s were very depleted due to GCSE exam revision, but U15 Kaycie and 2 U14s (Ariella and Immy) stood in to replace those who were missing.

This game was very well matched and the play went back and forth many times.
Both teams had moments of brilliance and we were even throughout the first 2 quarters of the game.

We snuck away in the third and fourth quarters down to some very impressive goals from both Ellen and U14 Ariella and some just amazing defence from Sophie and Victoria once again.

In the final quarter, we didn’t go out as hard as we had previously as it was very hot at this point, but when CDP got a few turnovers on us, our girls turned that back around and came back to secure another great win for their final game of the season.
Final Score: Aztecs 26 - Ravens 10

Sunday 27th April
Aztecs U14s Vs Woodside Kestrels
Aztecs WIN 34-26

Again, the girls started really confidently, despite missing some key regular members of the team.

This game was a lot more back and forth and it took much longer for a lead to be gained.
Eventually the girls snuck away by 3 and went into the third quarter with a much more competitive attitude.
They wanted to secure a second win and you could tell they wanted it.

Every single player worked incredibly hard and pulled together in the final quarter to gain 4 amazing turnovers which secured a winning result for the final league game of the season.

Sunday 27th April
Aztecs U16s Vs Woodside Ravens
Aztecs WIN 56-10

The U16s were very depleted due to GCSE exam revision, so our U14s took it in turns to stand in to fill the 3 positions!

As a coach, there are some games that leave me utterly speechless. - This game was one of those games!

From start to finish Aztecs absolutely dominated this game.
For 2 whole quarters of the game, Victoria and Sophie did not allow Ravens to score at all.
They had their eyes on every ball and stopped it getting into their D.
U14 Immy was there to back up the defence and get the ball down to our attack.
I watched on with absolute pride when every turnover was then converted to a goal from Ellen whose shooting was just on absolute fire.
I don’t know if having the back up support of the U14s made Ellen feel more confident, but something was different and Ellen just kept successfully putting those shots in from every angle.

The more the game went on, every girl found more and more confidence and absolutely smashed their game play.

It was a pure delight to watch and I may have shed a few happy tears at their performance.
Thanks for making my absolute year with this smashing win.

Sunday 27th April
Aztecs U14s Vs Woodside Eagles
Aztecs WIN 43-13

The girls had a really early start for their final league matches of the season.
The weather was on our side though and the sun was shining.

The girls started really confidently, despite missing some key regular members of the team.

Our defence worked incredibly hard, getting some beautiful intercepts and turnovers to take us ahead where we stayed consistently throughout the game.

Everyone worked amazingly well as a team today produce a fantastic result.
Final Score: Aztecs 43 - Eagles 13

A really strong win, beautifully executed!

The final game of the day saw the U16s play against Woodside Falcons.

We dominated this game!!!

We were playing exceedingly well, it was amazing to see!

Woodside then pulled out their secret weapon of a shooter and it didn’t matter where she shot from in the D, she didn’t miss, making it very hard for our defence.

Falcons managed to slip away from us in the final quarter BUT the girls still fought on!

Thanks to Imogen from the U14s for coming back to play with the U16s to give them 7.

(Victoria - the Woodside coach was very impressed with your defence!)
