Pivot Twentyfour12 year 13 put on an amazing mountain bike racing festival. It was a pleasure to ride amongst the elite, pro & great MTB folk on a cleverly 10k designed course offering up knarly rocky descents, amazing bomb holes, nightmare root sections suicidal climbs & not an ounce of tarmac in sight. In truth it flowed beautifully, Even on my eleventh lap I was still smiling.
The event arena offered up great food stalls from Thai cuisine, Pizza’s and crepes. I loved the free Dartmoor brewery beer tasting session on the Friday night, This was a great get together of fellow competitors, all sharing experiences and recent adventures. Bike stalls were also offering up all sorts of kits, even a massage was on offer.
Kids enduros were laid on, right from balance bikes to youth racing, I always love seeing the stars of the future. Friendly MTB folk & families were a plenty, sharing their own stories throughout the 24 hour race, encouraging each and every rider out on the course, even the mud and rain around about midnight didn’t deter folk, in fact it added to the experience.
I had great support from my family who ensured I was well feed & watered throughout my 12 hour solo. It never ceased to amaze me how thank you’s for passing on the left, passing on a the right from fellow riders out on the course. especially the sprint specialists. True gents & lasses.
Respect to every rider, which ever event you took part in (Solo, pairs or team) completing the 24/12 through rain, wind, mud is a fantastic challenge & reward. Even racing through the night in the dark offers up a unique & new challenge in its self, especially when you’ve been out on the course for the best part of the day already!
Safe to say I completed the 12 hours in one piece, I’m in ore of the leaders especially their pace & commitment. In fact everyone deserves a massive pat on the back, if I can encourage folk & stars of the future into the sport my work will be done.
Free camping, new friends, even an invitation to join an MTB endurance team on future rides. I had a ball. If you love MTB, I throughly recommend these festivals, very friendly & memories made for life,
It’s Mountain Biking cross country racing at its best.
