Friday was all about Triples, in the afternoon our league team hosted Severn Vale Bowls Club, who took the spoils winning convincingly on one rink. 41 - 57 (4 - 8).

The evening was all about the county competitions.

Rich & Matt Green were with Paul White against a Congresbury Triple of Roy King, Zach Broom & Duncan McKelduff. After building a strong lead the home team were pegged back and were 1 down going into the last end, a three to our team saw them home (20 - 18). Next up St Andrews away.

On the adjacent rink, Pete Brown, John Saunders & Matt Kiff were up against Alan Tolliver, Adam Bedford & Jordan Sparey from Willmott Park. The game started with a bang, the home team picking up an 8 on the 1st end then promptly dropping a 7 on the 2nd. Normality was restored on the 3rd when Willmott picked up 1 to level the scores. At the mid point Willmott were getting away but a strong finish saw our boys go in front on the penultimate end, scoring 1 on the last end they progressed to the next round (23 - 21). Next up Clevedon Promenade Bowls Club away.

Sunday morning saw our men travel to Portishead R.B.L for our fifth meeting there this season.
This time around we were on the top green for the 1st round of the City & County of Bristol B.A. Clarence Davey Cup.

We started strongly leading by 21 at 5 ends.
At 10 ends the game had evened out and our lead had only increased by 4.
At 15 ends we were again 21 in front.
But a strong last 3 ends saw us pull away to win by 27. 49 -76

In round two we host Canford, date TBC.

League roundup for the past week, It's not good reading I'm afraid!! ☹️

The League week began with our Ladies hosting Bristol St Andrews Bowling Club, with one player pulling out at the culmination of the trial ends due to a family matter, an already difficult task got even harder.

On Thursday our 'A' team travelled to Olveston and District Bowling Club, we didn't fair any better, but our 'B' team did manage a win at home against Avonmouth.

Could our Friday Triples team turn the tide?
Nope, the tricky artificial surface combined with the wind proved to scupper our team.

So onto Saturday and the Somerset County League. Our 'A' team hosted Victoria, our visitors enjoyed the conditions far more than we did winning on all three rinks.
Our Table topping 'B' team travelled to Burnham on Sea, unfortunately the one winning rink couldn't cover the other two, so we have slipped to second.

Friday evening we travelled to Frome Park in the area quarter final of the Bowls England Men's Top Club.
For a change we had a sunny evening, but this caused a few issues when playing towards the setting sun!
The whole match was a close encounter, epitomised by sharing the points in the two singles. Pete Brown winning the Two Wood with an end to spare and Liam White losing 21-20 in the Four Bowl.
The pair of Jason Ovens and Peter Birmingham secured their win (+9) with an end to spare but still played the last end dropping a four to win by 5 overall.
With the Triples a few ends behind it was down to the fours to see us over the line.

Having dropped two on the penultimate end we had a three shot advantage to play with, but the hosts were back on their favoured full length, and with the skips to play we were four down.😬

The home skip didn't affect the head so over to skip Ed Hopegood to play his first, a delivery that wasn't his best release had him panicking that he'd fluffed his moment, only to see his bowl contact one of his teammates bowls promoting it for shot bowl, leaving the home skip a nigh on impossible chance to achieve the win. A timely piece of luck to secure the victory.

The Triples conceded with two to play.
