The SGS Bristol Apache play in the Football America BAFA National Leagues SFC 2 West division. Founded in 2010, we are part of the Bristol American Football family which also includes SGS Bristol Aztecs (adult contact) and the SGS College Pride programs. In 2020 the teams underwent a rebrand that brings them under the SGS Bristol banner based at SGS College. Apache began as a development squad for

the Aztecs and are now an established team in the national leagues, playing our first season in the league in 2011 and achieving a first winning season in 2013, finishing 8-2. Apache won a first division crown in 2015, making it to the SFC2 bowl game. An unbeaten regular season in 2017 saw Apache promoted to SFC1, but returned to SFC2 a year later. Apache aims to combine the roles of a community and recreational team with being place for rookies to learn and develop. There is an emphasis on good coaching and a team ethos. The Apache are delighted to announce our MVPs vs the Stampede!

STMVP goes to WR/P Jack Waite! In a game where field position was key, Jack was constantly pinning the Stampede back into tough spots on the field with some well placed punts. This allowed the Apache Defence to protect their position and force Hereford into their own punts!

DMVP goes to DB Louis Trotman! An absolute force on the Defence all day. Louis got his first interception of the day in the 1st quarter! Not content with 1, he went on to record another pick in the second quarter! Perhaps his most important play of the day came in the 4th when the Stampede QB made a run for it, with just LT to beat, he not only made the tackle, but forced a fumble that LB Joe Gallagher recovered! An absolute dominant display.

OMVP goes to RB Ed Green. The key to opening up the passing game? Establish the run! And Ed did just that. Some powerful running, strong stiff arms and the RB rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries for an average of 6 yards per carry! He also produced a monster block protecting his QB who threw for the Tribes 2nd TD as a result! Credit to the running game as a whole on the day, but Ed was the rightful MVP!

Apache Win! The Tribe moved to 2-2 after a well fought victory over the Stampede. Entering the game on a high after an impressive won last week the Stampede chose to receive the opening kick off. The Apache defence made a statement with a big stop, but an excellent Stampede punt pinned the Tribe on their 1 yard line. Some excellent running by RB Ed Green & QB Fen Trudgian got the Apache moving, but the drive would eventually stall with a Scott Gay FG getting the Apache on the board and 3-0 up at the quarter.

The second quarter was played at the same breakneck speed as the first, and followed a similar format, the Apache D stopping Hereford and the O moving the ball well. It was late into the 2nd that the Apache extended their lead, QB Trudgian finding WR Jack Waite in the back corner of the endzone! The Stampede sniffed out the XP after slightly high snap gave them time to pressure and the Tribe went into the break 9-0 up.

A great kick return by WR/R Kieran Calvert set the Tribe up in great field position as the 2nd half started. But the Stampede defence stood firm and forced a turnover on downs. But after more stout defensive play the Apache offence had another chance, this time QB Trudgian finding WR TJ Ajayi who secured the catch and with Scott G**s XP the Tribe moved to 16-0 up as the quarter changed!

The 4th quarter started and another great Defensive play culminated in Louis Trotman forcing a fumble (to go with an interception earlier in the game) and Joe Gallager jumping on the ball to recover. It was now a chance for the Apache to rest some players and get valuable reps for others. The Stampede did eventually get on the board with the final pass of the game, converting a 4th and short. The Apache D stiffing out the 2 point attempt.

The Apache now finally rest after a brutal 3 game stretch before part 1 of the Battle for the Severn vs the South Wales Warriors!

The Apache are delighted to announce our MVPs vs the Thrashers!

STMVP goes to LB Sam Waterhouse! An absolute machine across Specials. Sam was tireless and physical in the blistering heat against a well drilled Solent team. Always willing and constantly looking at adjustments to improve, Sam is a deserving winner. He also repped in throughout at LB which in the heat, was a huge task.

DMVP goes to LB Joe Gallagher…again! Once again Joe was an absolute machine against a hard nosed Solent attack! An early first quarter sack, 8 tackles and relentless in his pursuits, Joe worked himself into the ground. He was unlucky to not record a forced fumble after officials ruled forward progress stopped prior…! Joe was also commended for his superb attitude in what was a tough game.

Honourable mentions for Scott Gay (2 sacks, 3 tackles) & Sam James (2 sacks)

OMVP goes to WR Luke Holloway! Mr reliable, Luke had a long first quarter TD called back for a penalty! Against a solid Solent D, Luke worked hard and was eventually rewarded with a score! With stats of 4 catches, 33 yards and 1 TD Luke takes the MVP this week.

Honourable mention to Ed Green for his hard running, another 80 yard TD called back for a flag, Harry Owen for another score and near incredible catch and Louis Thomas for a couple of clutch catches!

Apache Lose. The Tribe lost out to a tough Solent Thrashers unit. Played in blistering conditions the Tribe never fully got going. TDs from Harry Owen and Luke Holloway with TJ Ajayi getting a 2 point conversion and Scott Gay the XP with the Apache points. The Tribe have no time to rest as the Hereford Stampede travel to Bristol for the Apaches 3rd game on the bounce this Sunday.
