Bristol and West Young Athletes

Bristol and West Young Athletes This page is for young people who are members of or train with Bristol and West Athletics Club, and their family and friends

http://www.bristolandwestac.org/juniors

Our junior members, from 9 years old (age 5 at Filton Junior Academy only) to under 20, are very important to the club, now and in the future. If you want to improve your athletics skills in running, throwing and jumping and find out how good you are, or could be, then Bristol & West Athletic Club is the club for you. So if you are aged 9 to 19 and want to

be part of the club's exciting future then follow the links on the left of this page

We can give you the coaching in every event to improve your abilities and the competition to test them out. We must always remember that junior athletics is also about young people enjoying themselves and making new friends in a safe environment. The Club has brand new athletics facilities in Central Bristol at the City Academy's new track at the Packers Ground at Whitehall where the club has it's new headquarters. At Filton on the Filton College WISE campus we share the new 8-lane track and field events facilities with other Avon-based running and athletics clubs and with the University of the West of England. We have good links with primary and secondary schools in Bristol and aim to strengthen those with local club-school partnerships supported by Bristol City Council, Avon Athletics Association and with the Avon Athletics Network sponsored by England Athletics and run by the local athletics clubs. At Whitehall (Wednesdays) and at Filton (Mondays) we have training nights especially for younger athletes. There will also be clearly-defined stepping stones for young athletes to progress at their own pace from the beginner groups to the more specialized event groups as they develop. All this increased activity will need more support from parents who always form a key part of the volunteer workforce who help to run the club. If you would like to talk to anyone directly, please contact one of our lead coaches for juniors: Andrea Lock (Filton); Hilary Nash or Dean Garrett, (Whitehall); Simonne Lowrey (Junior Team Manager); Dave Taylor (girls 11 to 19), Ali Hurford (boys 10 to 14) & Dave Bedwell (boys 15 to19) or Keith Brackstone (Club Development Adviser)

SGS Athletics is looking for coaches to fill self-employed roles within our UWE Endurance provision and our Junior Community club.
Join the SGS Team!

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) Sport has several open coach vacancies to join our Athletics provision.

One of these positions will require the individual to plan and deliver sessions to our University of West England student Endurance athletes, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until the end of May 2023. This role can become a yearly position for the right candidate.

We also have opportunities within our junior community clubs that we run at the college on Monday evenings. We are looking for both paid and voluntary positions and work with ages 5 up to 16. We follow the 365/leading athletics pathway for our younger groups and develop event groups skills with our older athletes. We predominantly cover Sprints and Endurance for our secondary age groups with Throws and Jumps covered on Wednesday.

Both roles are open to self-employed individuals or organisations who are keen to facilitate and support the athletic development of athletes within the grass roots event group stages and a mixed group of development levels within the university programme. All applicants must possess a valid UK Athletics Coaching license or Coaching Assistant license. For some junior academy roles an alternative sport coaching license can be considered.

To apply for the post please email [email protected] and [email protected] a 500-word cover letter stating how your skills and qualities suitably align with the role and the SGS Athletics Academy. We will contact you to notify you on the status of your application and inform you on the following stages should your application be successful.

Closing date: Friday October 14th, 2022

Wage is £10-£15 per hour based on experience level and qualifications.
