🌟Spotlight on another legend in the Lindy hop / Swing dance world. Today we're celebrating Willamae Briggs Ricker.🌟

❤ She’s known for being featured in a photo essay in Life magazine, where this fantastic picture is from. During World War II, Ricker managed the Harlem Congaroos, a sub-group of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers formed from the premiere dancers. She became a fashion model but never stopped dancing and her warm personality made her one of the most beloved Lindy hoppers!

👉Happy International Women's Day!

There are some fantastic women who made a HUGE impact in the Swing Dance World and in the next few weeks I'll be highlighting a few!
Starting off with...
✨Josephine Baker✨
Josephine started in the chorus line at the beginning of her career and then starred in many shows and movies. She spent most of her life in France because, even though she was one of the most popular dancers of the 20's, she suffered greatly from racism in her own country. She toured the world and was known for her commitment to raising awareness of social and political realities and was known for her the sense of humor she would put into each performance. There are some great youtube videos you can watch of her performances and here's one of them!
