This weekend is set to bring warmer weather and sunshine to much of the UK. As temperatures rise and people head outdoors, it's vital to stay aware of water safety risks.
Understand the risks
• Warm weather does not mean warm water
• Open water remains dangerously cold
• Cold water shock happens in seconds - take it seriously
• It can cause an uncontrollable gasp and loss of breathing control
Know your limits
• Even confident swimmers can quickly lose strength and control
• It can become difficult to move or stay afloat
• Panic can make the situation worse
• Things can go wrong very quickly in open water
