🚨 JOHNSONS ROAD – COMMUNITY UPDATE
We can confirm that the unauthorised encampment at Johnsons Road has now vacated the site after 5 days.
However, the site has unfortunately been left in an unsafe and unacceptable condition and requires professional cleaning before it can safely return to community use.
Downend Flyers FC will not be using Johnsons Road until the site has been professionally assessed, cleaned and confirmed as safe by the Council.
The level of waste left behind is significant and includes:
• Human waste
• Household rubbish
• Garden and green waste
• Building materials, including concrete and wood
• Waste believed to be associated with rogue trader activity
The condition of some areas is particularly concerning, and we strongly advise members of the public not to enter areas of the site unnecessarily until it has been professionally cleaned.
⚠️ Dog walkers: Please be especially cautious and do not allow dogs off lead at Johnsons Road until the site has been properly cleaned and made safe. There may be hazardous or contaminated waste that is not immediately visible.
📢 PLEASE HELP US REPORT IT
Our plea to local residents, members and the wider community is to report the fly-tipping and condition of the site directly to South Gloucestershire Council using the link below:
The more reports the Council receives, the clearer the scale of the problem and its impact on the local community will be.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local residents and community members who have supported Downend Flyers throughout this difficult period, particularly those who have remained vigilant and reported suspicious behaviour to the appropriate authorities.
The unauthorised encampment has had a huge impact on our club, preventing more than 500 football players from accessing training and matches at Johnsons Road.
We are incredibly grateful for the patience and support shown by our players, parents, coaches, volunteers and the wider community, including Emerson’s Green FC who were kind enough to allow us some space for some teams to train.
