Marshall Briefing Sheet
The Bradley Stoke 10k is organised by Sole Sisters Running Club with the objective of providing an enjoyable and shared running experience for both experienced runners and those new to running and/or running events. You play a vital part in helping us deliver a memorable, enjoyable and safe running experience to all the participants. Please take time to read through these briefing notes below. Thank you!
(1) Race Head Quarters is at the Jubilee Centre, Savages Wood Road, Bradley Stoke BS32 8HL.
(2) Please report to the bottom end of the car park at the Jubilee Centre at 8.00am where marshals will be grouped with their lead marshal prior to walking to their positions on the course.
(3) You will be given a lanyard which will have the mobile telephone number of your lead marshal as well as your marshalling number and position.
(4) Please ensure that your yellow, high-vis marshal bib is worn over all other clothing at all times.
(5) Many marshals will be positioned out on course for an extended period of time. Please ensure that you take any additional clothing and ensure that you use the toilet facilities before you leave the Jubilee Centre. We provide marshals with a small goodie bag but additional refreshments can be purchased from inside the Jubilee Centre.
(6) If you have children marshalling with you, please ensure that they stay with you at all times and do not venture onto the course so we can ensure the safety of them and the runners.
(7) If you are covering a road crossing point, please be aware we do not have road closures or the authority to stop traffic.
(8) Your specific role and responsibilities will be explained to you by the lead marshal for your group. If anything is unclear, please ask!
(9) Your lead marshal will walk you to your position. All positions have been carefully considered and you must stay at that post until the back marker has passed, unless there is an emergency situation that requires you to move or you have been instructed by your lead marshal to do so. If you need to move for any other reason, please call your lead marshal who will know whether a replacement needs to be found and they will arrange this as needed.
(10) Please be courteous, friendly and informative at all times not just to the participants but to all members of the public who might need to know what is happening.
(11) Encourage the runners! Don’t be quiet! Your encouragement really will make a difference.
(12) Everyone will be provided with a bin liner so please pick up any discarded water bottles from the race and bring them back to the Jubilee Centre where they can be disposed of.
(13) If any runner (or member of the public) is in distress or requires attention, please follow this procedure:
- Phone your lead marshal and provide your name and location on the course.
- It would be useful to download the ‘what3words’ app from Play Store or Apple store as this will give a precise position of your location.
- Briefly provide a description of the nature of the incident.
- Stay with the runner (or member of the public) and provide re-assurance.
- Await the arrival of an attending first aid or member of the event team.
- In a life threatening emergency, phone 999.
A huge thank you for volunteering your time to marshal at this event. We really appreciate your support.
Thank you, Sole Sisters
