Dai Ichi Gakko Aikido

Dai Ichi Gakko Aikido Dai Ichi Gakko is a Aikido Dojo affiliated to Kobayashi Dojos, Japan. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.

Our Shihan, 8th Dan Aikikai, is Yasuo Kobayashi who trained under the founder of Aikido as a martial system, O-Sensei Ueshiba, in the 1950's. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to by his title 'O Sensei' or 'Great Teacher'). On a purely physical level it is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and some throws and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. Aikido offers much more than a physical skill to the practitioner; Students develop their technique through ‘partner practice’ and this non-competitive, harmonious form of training is key to understanding it’s benefits, both mental (stress release, spiritual enlightenment) and physical (fitness, self-defence) - It’s also what makes Aikido training so enjoyable. As a modern “Budo” (literally, ‘martial way’), Aikido has a strong ethical basis grounded in the founder’s message of harmony and peace. Although the idea of a martial discipline striving for peace and harmony may seem paradoxical, it is the most basic tenet of the art. Aikido offers a counter-balance to our stressful modern lives through the enjoyable and mentally stimulating practice of this refined martial art.
