My People's Champion is Chris Vaughan! 🏆

"First of all, thank you so much to those who have nominated me and to everyone else involved for being shortlisted for this award.

I started working for Bristol City Council at Bristol Cycling Centre in March 2025, after 15 years working as a photographer, and very shortly after my partner and I found out we were going to be first-time parents. Both preparing for, and being a dad, has influenced how I work as an instructor. I aim to be a kind, energetic and enthusiastic colleague, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere for everyone who visits the centre. I am lucky to work alongside experienced and supportive colleagues, and I am continuously learning and developing. I enjoy working collaboratively and sharing ideas across sessions.

When instructing, I like to ask learners to reflect on their experience at the end of the day, whether it was challenging or fun. With some riders it is simply about trying something new, and with others it is developing one of the core skills. I have recently also started working at Bath and North East Somerset Council delivering Bikeability in schools, and have enjoyed getting involved with Frome Community Bike Project.

I believe cycling can be a really fulfilling part of people’s lives. It can make towns and cities feel closer and more connected, and it helps people build confidence and independence. Sharing that joy and supporting others to develop new skills is what I find most rewarding."

To VOTE for Chris Vaughan, interact with this post by reacting, liking, commenting and sharing this photo. Every interaction counts as a vote 🎉

Voting closes on Sunday 5 July at midnight. Your People's Champion will be announced on Day, Friday 17 July.
