🏃‍♀️🌿 Today's gardening session with the GoodGym Bristol runners was nothing short of heroic!
In just ONE hour, this amazing team managed to:
✅ Rescue the rosemary from a serious w**d invasion (it can finally breathe again!)
✅ Give the oregano and lemon balm a much-needed trim and tidy-up
✅ Pull out all the finished poppies
✅ Give the willow fence a stylish summer haircut
✅ Fill the compost bin to the brim!

Along the way we sampled some "English wasabi" (otherwise known as nasturtium seeds 🌶️😆) and one of the runners became so attached to a Sticky W***y plant that they ended up wearing it like a bridesmaid's bouquet 💐😂

As reward for their hard work, our superheroes tucked into well-earned cherries, grapes and biscuits. 🍒🍇🍪

It's incredible how much can be achieved when enthusiastic people come together. A huge thank you to the GoodGym Bristol crew for their energy, enthusiasm and willingness to help DEPP. We're so lucky to have your support! 💚

See you next time, garden heroes! 🌱✨

☀️ What a wonderful way to start the week! 🌱
The sun was shining, the volunteers were smiling and the garden was buzzing with activity today. We harvested fresh produce, pruned plants, collected seeds, planted for the future, discovered some fascinating insects, enjoyed plenty of chats and even found time for yummy cake and delicious cherries! 🍒🍰🐞
It's amazing what can be achieved when a great bunch of people come together.

And the fun doesn't stop there! Next week, after gardening, we'll be heading to The Coronation Pub for a social evening to chat about future projects, share ideas and dream up what's next for our growing community.

Whether you're a regular volunteer or thinking of joining for the first time, everyone is welcome. We'd love to see you there!

🌿 Festival of Nature Week at Dame Emily Park 🌿

What a wonderful week celebrating nature, community and wellbeing outdoors!

From Monday through to Sunday, volunteers and visitors came together to care for and enjoy Dame Emily Park. The week was filled with gardening, forest school activities, litter picking, harvesting from the garden, plenty of cake eating and inspiring conversations about growing, foraging and making tea from plants around us.

We were especially delighted to welcome around 200 visitors during Secret Garden Day on Sunday. It was fantastic to meet so many people, share stories and knowledge and showcase the park as a place where nature and community thrive together. Secret Garden Event not only opens up inspiring green spaces to the public, but also helps raise funds for community gardening and environmental projects across BS3.

The week highlighted the many benefits of spending time outdoors – improving wellbeing, learning new skills, connecting with nature and strengthening community relationships. Every conversation, every helping hand and every shared cup of tea contributed to making the week a success.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, visited, shared their knowledge, or simply stopped by for a chat. Together we continue to make Dame Emily Park a welcoming, vibrant space for people and wildlife alike.

At My Wild Dame Emily Park Forest School last week we made musical shakers from sticks. We learnt the shaker song, watered the garden and searched for minibeasts. Todays session is cancelled due to the weather but I will be running a session at the Nature Festival in Dame Emily Park Community Garden on Monday evening at 5pm. Looking forward to seeing you then or next Thursday at 2pm.
