We finally said goodbye to my Dad Ian Arthur Thorpe -today and sent him on his final journey. Somehow it feels too deeply personal to post his picture but he loved nature and planted this budleigh bush in his garden where the butterflies still land. Born on the 8th May 1947 he Died aged 79 on the 19th May 2026. He’s survived by my Mother, my sister and myself as well as his own sister and their family. Gentle but strong, kind but wise RIP Dad life must go on but what you taught me will live on always ..

I’ll be taking it steady for the next week but as June becomes July normal business will resume Boing Bicycles

Heh folks due to the passing of my father i’m pausing operations from today 19th May until early July- this maybe altered a little as time goes on but right now its the right call. My Dad had been really quite unwell for some time and it’s time now for me to take this time out. All paid and non paid bookings are being contacted to be given the option of refund or reschedule. My Dad was a great soul and my Mum has been heroic in caring for him - we will obviously be back fixing bikes but for a while it’s time to down tools and take some time - I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks as well to all the staff who cared for him in Hull Royal Infirmary without fail the medics I encountered allowed him every dignity they could - we’ll be back when I feel ready - thks - Jonny

Bicycles are really nuanced a cool thing about is that the nominal 27 gears (ok there is some duplication in there) ridden steadily across all the rings and cassette cogs makes for a really decent lifespan more metal (over 10 11 12 and 13 speed cogsets makes for a longer life
