In ancient cultures like the Roman Empire,
"fortitudo," symbolising courage and strength, held great significance. It embodied the ability to face challenges, endure hardships, and remain resolute in the face of adversity.
As coaches, our mission is to instil "fortitudo" in todav's youth by teaching them the value of inner strength. We draw inspiration from historical cultures that revered these virtues, guiding the young minds we nurture.
In addition to fortitudo, we also emphasise adaptability, a vital form of social capital according to Pierre Bourdieu's concepts. By imparting adaptability, we equip our young athletes with a powerful tool for success, enabling them to embrace change, conquer obstacles, and thrive in diverse environments.
As I reflect on this journey, I am filled with joy, standing beside these two wonderful little bears - referring to the two young wrestlers in the picture with me. They exemplify the spirit of playfulness and determination that fuels our coaching efforts.
However, in this journey, we must not forget the importance of preserving and nurturing the creative minds of our youth.
Just as Richard Feynman emphasised, creativity is one of the most crucial human tools for problem-solving and innovation.
To truly thrive in all aspects of life, we must avoid stifling the creative spirit within our youth. Encouraging curiosity, imagination, and exploration will enable them to tackle challenges with fresh perspectives and find unique solutions.
Life's triumphs come not only from enduring tough times but also from cherishing moments of happiness and embracing the spirit of play. By fostering fortitu, adaptability, and a flourishing creative mind, we empower the youth to not just survive but to excel as problem solvers and innovators.
