The Rise of The Ardagh

The Rise of The Ardagh The Rise of the Ardagh! read description for more ..... The Ardagh sits on the Common where a Cottage called Poplar Cottage sat many years ago.

Bristol City Council bought the Cottage from Wiclif Warner on March 31st 1921 with 5 1/2 acre Home Mead for £4,850. The Cottage was replaced by a sports pavilion in the early 1930s and it was named "Ardagh." The years have not been kind to the Ardagh and with the lack of money being spent on it over the previous 20+ years, The Ardagh is looking sad. But now is has been confirmed by the Council tha

t the threat of closure and demolition of the Ardagh site is gone! Following the city-wide Parks & Green Spaces consultation last year, 64% of people who responded in Horfield and Lockleaze said that the main areas that needed to be improved is this one! The Ardagh is now managed by a community-run charity, Ardagh Community Trust & we are beginning to see improvements! This also means the area of the Common surrounded the Ardagh, including the childrens play area are also included in the improvements! It is going to be hard work with the raising of funds to get the Ardagh back on its feet, but it will be lots of FUN too!
